Poll question: Best Movie Trilogy Ever?
If you include all three films and rank them together.

Note, I'm including Lord of the Rings because I'm sure most of you have read the book and know what's gonna happen in the movie and can probably imagine how good it's gonna be.

I'm also including the Matrix, so I guess we can just guess that the third film is gonna be good too.

:)

1. Hate to say it..
Edited on Wed Oct-15-03 09:25 AM by darknemus
But you really just can't top Star Wars. Especially if you factor in the effect these trilogies have had on pop culture. The Star Wars franchise truly is a step above anything else out there. I highly doubt its overall financial &, more importantly, social impact can ever be repeated. Past, present, or future.

LOTR is a GREAT film series, btw - so its not like I'm some Star Wars Geek - Its just, with SW, it had as much to do with the time frame of the original releases as it does the content of the films. Hard to repeat that. (re: look at the 'new' trilogy - a pale shadow of its former version)

2. I mean, come ON people!
When someone says "We're going to watch The Trilogy tonight", don't you just assume they mean the Star Wars trilogy? :)

7. Its just JarJar denial
Diehard SW fans do not acknowledge Anything with JarJar in it. I mean come on, the fans were getting cranky over the Ewoks. JarJar was too much for anyone.

12. Yeah, but the other two
are in the top five movies of all time, if not the top three! II is the BEST movie ever MADE, many people say!

But, you're right, III sucked bad. It's too bad, too, because it was supposed to be the moral part of the trilogy. And they flubbed it.

21. That whole move sucked because of casting
I saw GodfatherIII in the opening weekend. When Mary Corleone died at the end of the movie (the role was played by Sophia Coppola), the entire audience stood up and cheered.

I think the general outline of GIII was excellent, but that forced love story between 1st cousins (only half related) just totally sucked. And why did Vinnie Corleone half to be from Sonny's illicit affair (except to make the love story just a little bit less unqueasy). Why couldn't it have been one of Sonny's kids from his marriage or better yet - one of Connie's kids from her first marriage (think of the irony - Michael Corleone order the kill on Carlo Rizzi, Connie's husband, in the first movie because Carlo help setup Sonny's murder on the LI Expressway).

If only I had directed that movie (or at least written the script)

5. Return of the Jedi is one of the worst movies ever!
Star Wars can't win because of that. Episode One was even worse than Jedi

LOTR without a doubt.

The second Indiana Jones was putrid--it might have won if that one didn't stink so bad.

8. LotR, hands down. No movie trilogy will EVER exceed it
It blows Lucasfilms out of the water and the third Godfather movie was so crappy that there is no way it should even be mentioned in the same breath as LotR.

Of course, I've been a LotR fan since the tender young age of eleven and have been waiting for a live action movie my enitre life, so I could have a biased opinion.

13. I fell asleep during the first LOTR
And, I swear, if I had heard the phrase "...the power of my people..." one more frickin' time I was gonna puke.
That movie was some of the corniest crap ever. The second one was better, though.

runner up: Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness, although I thought Raimi went overboard in Army of Darkness.

Okay, so I'm a horror fanatic. I don't get into mainstream movies so much.

24. LoTR. Their translation of Tolkien's work from book to film is
Edited on Wed Oct-15-03 11:57 AM by Cat Atomic
nothing short of outstanding. I never would've thought a faithful interpretation could survive a trip to the screen, but this one does.

I was rereading The Hobbit a few days ago. Tolkien's descriptions of Bilbo's house were slavishly followed by the set designers- it's really incredible. And that sort of attention to detail is just scattered all through the films.

And when they do take liberties with Tolkiens narrative, props, sets, characters, etc., it's almost always an improvement. Vigo Mortensen's portrayal of Aragorn as a sort of conflicted hero is much more interesting than the character in the book, IMHO.

NOW I WANT PETER JACKSON TO DO A DUNE TRILOGY!!!

just kidding - LOTR is my pick as well. Peter Jackson is now my personal hero. It's almost completely erased the memory of that Bakshi abomination.

I do have to give a shout-out to the three great Marx Brothers movies, even if they aren't really a trilogy per se: Animal Crackers, Horse Feathers, and Duck Soup.
