12. If You Like "The Mighty Quinn"
check out Leon Russell's version on his live concert album. Totally different treatment with a jumpin' honky-tonk piano.

a very simple little song, but kinda fun. Or, For You. One of my favorite bands. I have pretty much everythign on mint vinyl. Been collecting it since college back in the 70's. Lots of test pressings and promo pieces, going back to the first releases, but I like the Earth Band era best. Good Poll.

11. "Fox on the Run" or "Every Other Day."
Both on "The Fontana Years" compilation. Great singers, Mike D'Abo and Paul Jones.

13. CALLING NY CITY SUBWAY RIDERS
Have you noticed when the new trains pull out of the station, they make this noise that sounds just like the refrain before the chorus in "Blinded By the Light" Am I the only one who hears this?

14. Their cover of Bruce Springsteen's
'For You.' I prefer his version of 'Blinded By The Light,' but I really like the bombast of their cover of 'For You.'

There's a great story I read in an interview (I think it was with D'Abo, but I'm not sure, it's been a long time) about how the band came to cover those Springsteen songs. Reputedly, they'd just reported in to a recording studio somewhere in the Alps and were immediately snowed in. Some members of the band wouldn't be able to make it up the hill for a few days, and they didn't want to do any writing until they were all there, so they decided to play around with recording some scratch demos in the studio facilities while they were waiting. 'For You' and 'Blinded By The Light' were the only Springsteen songs everybody knew enough of they thought they could at least put down a demo track, so while they were snowed in, they recorded those songs. Once the whole band was together, the missing bandmembers heard the demos and insisted they finish them up and put them with the next project.

That was the excuse given for why the lyrics might not have been precisely correct, or the songs might have differed somewhat from the originals -- they'd played and sung from memory.

Warning: Story may be apocryphal, but it was in an interview with a bandmember. I think I read it in Spin or RS, but it was over 15 years ago.
