Poll question: Just about finished with Franken's book - Which one should I read next?

I've been hungry to do some extra reading in politics lately and went a bit overboard and ordered 7 books from Amazon last week. They arrived yesterday and I'm almost finished with Franken's book. Good book, BTW, and I recommend it, but I can't say I have learned anything new because I'm already well aware of the right wing Lies and the Lying Liars who tell them. I'd love to have been a witness to Franken walking up to Wolfowitz and saying "Hey, the Clinton military did a great job in Iraq, didn't it?" LOL! Wolfies response? "Fuck you."

Anyway, this was a fun book and I'd like to learn something new. I'm going to read them all eventually. Which one should I read next? Also, please feel free to recommend other books for future reading and tell me why you recommend it.

27. Franken has some substance in this one...

I found myself simultaneously very angry but laughing my ass off at the appropriate moment, due to how he delivered things. Don't go by tepid reviews, you know as well as anyone that goes to this discussion board that the media is not liberal!!

Read the Franken book!!

I've mentioned later in this thread that Moore's books have been cited several times so I've decided to reconsider him as well.

I read Franken's book first and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Moore is in top form in his new book and very accusatory of the BFEE. He holds back no punch. At 40% off ($15.72), I couldn't resist buying it either.

The book is so delicious I just yummed it up! :9

Conason's book is good (I read the whole thing). But I suspect anyone posting here will not learn anything they don't already know.

Krugman, of course, is the master.

...Conason, Alterman, Ivins, all good stuff. Plus Begala's two books are great too.

I'm reading Moore right now and I don't think it's as good as his previous stuff, IMHO.

10. The Bush Dyslexicon

It's not, as you might imagine, just a gag book of *'s gaffes (of which there are many included), but a pretty comprehensive look at the pathology of a president who can't string words together to make a sentence about ideas he doesn't believe in.

Surprisingly heavy read.

11. All the Shah's Men by Stephen Kinzer (future consideration)

Here's a link to Amazon. True retelling of the 1953 coup, in alliance with the Brits, CIA overthrows a democratically elected leader, puts a puppet in his place, who himself is subsequently overthrown, yet the American media never mentions this during the '79 hostage situation. I'm 3/4 of the way through this one.

He details all the dirty tricks played against Clinton, as he was part of it. He was friends with Ann Coulter, Laura Ingram, etc.

I'm reading that one now, an amazing look into the PR biz. It'll make your blood boil :grr:, your stomach turn :puke: and roll your eyes :eyes: with disgust. Very informative.

Molly Ivin's humor remains intact despite the grim task at hand. Her funniest story in the book: Bush's slogan, "Juntos Podemos" or "Together, we can" was misspelled by the Houston Chronicle as "Juntos, Pedemos" or "Together, we fart."

I should point out that I considered Will's books a given. I've reveiwed them and already planned on looking for a date he will be speaking in my area so I can get them autographed.

The book you mention "The Radical Center" is one that was mentionded some time back in another thread and I've been trying to put my finger on the name of it since then. I was hoping it would come up here - Thanks!!

This is an excellent and well rounded list and just what I was looking for. I'll check out the one's I don't have and add them to my next order list. I wasn't too impressed with Michael Moore but he has cropped up several times here so I'll not exclude those books.

The Best Democracy Money Can Buy - Greg Palast. The Table of Contents alone looks pretty inviting. I just know this book is going to make me sick.

I've already started - the first section is on how the 2000 election was stolen in Florida. In 20 pages I have already learned a few new things. This is going to be interesting ...

Wonder if he Palast is going to do a story on the one that was just stolen in California ...

The Best Democracy Money Can Buy by Palast should be required reading by everyone. Stunning. I'm almost finished with it. How the Florida 2000 vote was stolen alone is worth is worth twice the price of the book, and they are still doing it!! And, I didn't realize that Gore probably won Tennessee as well, did you?

More about how the groundwork for deregulation of power for the explicit purpose of exploiting the CA market as well. A fascinating read. A MUST READ for every DU member.
