9. It was a genre of music that first appeared in the mid-60s.

Sort of a backlash to the progressive rock of the era, it was extremely melodic, bright, and happy, with lyrics that usually dealt with adolescent love. In many cases, songs were recorded by the same studio musicians in various combinations under different names (see Buddah Records for an example). Lots of campy classics emerged from this genre.

Bubblegum "classics" recorded by alt-rock and power pop artists and bands. Really quite good. I recommend "1-2-3 Red Light" by Joyride and "Time To Change" (from the Brady Kids) by Michael Carpenter.

The Carpenters songs were played on the radio all the time on the cheesy station my parents listened to whenever we went for our Sunday drives, or travelled in the car. I have the "If I Were a Carpenter" CD, which I love.
