1. Yes, but the plane has engine trouble and the boat has a hole.
The offer is from a Cubs fan!

2. Actually, the guy is supposedly a Cubs FANatic
Total Cubs junkie. Even has a full size baseball field in his "yard" according to the CNN story. He lives, eats, breathes the Cubs, and is none too happy about all of this fuss, either.

And, btw, I think it was the Miami Chamber of Commerce that made the offer.

14. My response was a joke, of course.
Someone today said that you can't really fault him for doing it, because it was just a gut reaction. Obviously, had he realized the ramifications, he wouldn't have done it.

3. "Cubs Ball Grabber". Isn't that pretty common in baseball?
Ball grabbing, that is?

4. Good for him
He might as well stay if they don't win tonight. It is terrible that we pay so much attention to sports that it can be destructive.

6. I heard that the guy
is a real big Cubs fan. However, he must not be much of a baseball fan. Had he and the rest really understood what the situation was, all of them would have cleard away for the catch to be made.
As it turns out, he fucked it up for his own team. I'm surprised he hasn't taken more heat than he has for that.
Geez, at the very least, he should have realized that what he did would be okay if it was Florida in the field, but not his own damn team.
All for a freakin' baseball? What was he thinking?

Edited on Wed Oct-15-03 04:51 PM by VermontDem2004
way more heat then he deserves, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much heat then he deserves. You would've probaly done the same thing and from the replay it looks more like a reaction then a well thought out move. All of this heat over a freakin' baseball game? The Cubbies blaming the fan for the loss is like Republicans blaming Clinton for anything bad that happens. Cubs lose game 7, it will be 'The Fans' fault.

19. Hold on there
Let's think about this one. He's looking up at a ball coming in his direction. He's sitting in an area along the third base line where the wall is about 8 feet high. He probably had no idea Alou was capable of making a play, and, in any event, the ball was coming down in the stands, not on the field. Don't know about you, but most normal peple in that situation cannot divert their attention in two directions simultaneously. He didn't "fuck it up" for his team, The Cubs did a good job of fucking it up for themselves.

20. He had headphones on
I would assume he was listening to the WGN broadcast of the Cubs, and would know there's a play coming his way.

Personally, I don't place the entire blame of the Cubs' loss on his shoulders. Most of what is going at him is from fans in denial that Gonzalez screwed the Cubs by bobbling that grounder. But that was a bad decision on his part to go for the ball.

Wouldn't it be a much cooler story to say "Moises Alou made a great catch right on top of me!" than "I caught a freakin' foul ball."?

7. He's lucky the Cubs play baseball in America, not soccer in Colombia
If he was Colombian, he'd have been worm food by nightfall.

8. I take it you've never been to a Cubs playoff game.
On second thought, that's like saying "I take it you've never been attacked by a radioactive weiner dog".

Let's just say that it's safe to assume that there are probably a few Cub fans that wouldn't mind dumping Bartman's lifeless corpse in Lake Michigan if they had the chance.

Go Cubbies!
Go Bosox!

15. Unfortunately True
The local CBS news reported 7 police cars outside of his parents home in Northfield today.

I don't mind making fun of him for a day or two here or over a beer in Wrigleyville, but that's way over the top.

23. Dolt?
The same thing could've easily happened to you

"I had my eyes glued on the approaching ball the entire time and was so caught up in the moment that I did not even see Moises Alou, much less that he may have had a play," Bartman said in a statement.

"Had I thought for one second that the ball was playable or had I seen Alou approaching, I would have done whatever I could to get out of the way and give Alou a chance to make the catch."
