Who has seen "A Mighty Wind"?

Should I buy the DVD? I own This is Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, and Best in Show already. Does Mighty Wind live up to those standards?

1. I would say yes...

A Mighty Wind was better than Best in Show, IMO. Defintely worthy of the collection. I have all of those you mentioned above except Best in Show.

I loved Best In Show! Mostly because I used to work for a breeder that specialized in show dogs. The people represented in that movie were spot-on. Especially the owners of the weimaraner. Dog-show people are nutty, to say the least.

7. Wonderful Film.

But if you don't particularly care for the 1950's genre of folk music and some of the history behind it, you might not care for the film.

I tell you this because a group of friends went to see this when it was released and the one who hated it, truly hated it, also hated folk music and thought the folk music period of the 1950's was silly.

I loved the film and thought it was simply brilliant. If you like it half as much as I did then you should pick it up. :hi:

I'm a musician who loves all genres of music. I also love "smart" comedy. I think my decision has been made.

Spinal Tap fans: There's a DVD available called The Return of Spinal Tap It's a must-see. Live concert footage of Tap at (IIRC) the Royal Albert Hall, with comedy cameos from stars of the original movie between every three songs or so. I have it on video, but just ordered the DVD about ten minutes ago.

12. Get the DVD.

First, it's not Spinal Tap. It's in the same vein, but if you expect it to be as good or better, you'll be disappointed. The lines, scenes, and characters don't manage to hit the perfect spot that combines suspension of disbelief with some pretty outrageous situations. A lot of the movie either comes off as less believable or as less humorous, although the latter is probably my opinion only (disclaimer: I find the woeful biographies of heavy metal bands more interesting than those of folk folk).

That having been said, the characters are endearing enough, and the scenes good enough, that buying the DVD is probably the way to go. Iv'e only seen it once, but if I had the DVD, I'd probably watch it every now and then. There's certainly enough density in the material to warrant it, and I'd imagine much of it would look new with repeat viewing.

If you're glad you own the others, you won't regret this one.

Guffman had me cackling through the whole thing. Mighty Wind had a lot of funny moments but I didn't laugh out loud at every scene. Still, we bought Mighty Wind because we had to have it for the collection!

On edit: Almost forgot, the deleted scenes and extras are worth the price themselves!

which is not as funny as "Waiting For Guffman", but Christopher Guest on a downward spiral still beats anyone else out there.

"A Mighty Wind" was far more fully conceived and funnier. IMHO
