I just received some horrible news...
A young friend of my daughter's (Here parent's have been acquaintances of ours for some time) was found dead in her home. This sweet girl was only 13. No details yet. I will look at my daughter tonight when she gets home and be thankful for her. I cannot even bear to think about what this child's parents are going through right now.

this. I wish we could just shield our kids from the reality of life at times. Thanks again.

5. Oh my God!!! How very horrible. I hope it is not suicide
Suicide leaves the family with such guilt...I pray it is not suicide. But I am sure it does not look good. I am so sad for that family...so very sad. I have a grand daughter that age and cannot imagine the horror the family is going through.

23. ****An Update****
Jamie hung herself. Why would a 13 year old choose to do this? The rumblings are that she had gotten a bit into Goth, but I can hardly think that is the cause. I want to take a moment and thank you all for your well wishes. The good thing for my daughter is that they went to different schools so she won't have to sit and listen to rumors. We've chosen to not get into too much detail about it. I just hope I am doing the right thing...smack me if I'm not.

Thanks again, you all are terrific people, and I'm glad I decided to post about it here after debating.

25.  Mrs. Grumpy
your daughter is aware of this death - you don't need details to discuss it with her. Any death is traumatic but suicide is right up there with homicide in shock severity. Look for signs your girl might need to unload - I'm guessing you may see some. Don't be alarmed, just be aware. Bless your hearts.

34. This is tragic...
and my heart goes out to you and the family of the poor 13 yo.

Each death diminishes us in both seen and unseen ways. Perhaps, if this young girl had lived, she would have made life better for all those whom she would have come in contact with, now, all that is left is a hole that can never be filled.

I have no idea why this child took her own life; but I do know that every new day, every new hour and every new minute brings us closer to solving what may be bothering us if we take the time to look at the problems we face. For those problems that seem monumental, we may need to seek help and there is help out there.

Every time I read a thread like this, I wish I could be a rock of comfort and solace. I dream of the day when people no longer post the deaths of younger ones, because those deaths never occured.

My heart goes out to all who have been afflicted with this situation, and I hope and pray this will stop.

It is pointless to say, "pick up the pieces and move on", this is one of those tragedies a parent can never get over. Never.

I shed a tear for someone I never knew.

MY! Bad news day in the Lounge!

:grouphug: Mrs Grumpy and her daughter :grouphug:

I can't think of anything worse than a dead child.

I'm with you. Though I didn't know this young girl, I don't think it was the goth interests. Plenty of people surrounding a suicide just have no clue that the person was suffering so intensely.

33. What tragic news Mrs Grumpy...
I'm sorry that you have to break it to your daughter.

I'm sure you're right about the Goth thing not being the cause of her troubled mind. However, I think elements of Goth can appeal to kids who are depressed to begin with. How sad that this girl didn't talk with anyone about her sadness...or nobody was really listening.

46. We're doing good. She has gathered all her pictures and
wants to put them in a special album. She's been talking, which is a relief. This is the year my daughter and I have finally begun to see things a little more eye to eye, after a couple of rough years. I am so thankful for that now. I think it's going to be a long time before I take my eye off of her for too long. I still cannot begin to imagine the pain of her parents. Thanks again to everyone.

44. Oh no!
What a horrible tragedy. My heart goes out to that girl's family, and you and your daughter. To lose a child must be an unspeakable loss, and to lose one so young in such a manner? :(

FWIW, I've been involved in the Goth scene for about 8 years now, and have struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts. I can tell you that were it not for the scene, I wouldn't be sitting here typing this today--I found acceptance and community, and a support network I just didn't get anywhere else. It sounds like she had some other issues going on in her life, and unfortunately felt like she just couldn't deal. It's terrible.

I just don't know what to say. This is such a senseless thing. I will certainly be praying for you, your daughter, and this poor girl's family.:hug::hug:

...that poor girl, her family, her friends, your daughter and family. What a tragedy.

Yes, I hope you find some way to give your daughter the support and room to vent and, eventually, to honor her friend. I especially hope that if there are other children in the family, they will get the help they're going to need right now. And God bless those parents and may they find strength to endure through this.
