4. When Ivan Rodriguez is on the other team, it's not a choke

If you look at the stats, Ivan Rodriguez is the greatest hitting catcher to ever play the game. He is a defensive deamon, and he handles a pitching staff wonderfully. When I-Rod is in the lineup, there is no way you can claim a team he beat choked. He's too spectacular a player.

I am SO glad he is somewhere other than the Rangers now.

I don't like the Mets. I don't like the Dodgers. I don't like Mike Piazza. It doesn't matter that I'm not a fan of his and I AM a fan of Ivan Rodriguez; the facts are plain:

Mike Piazza is the greatest hitter among all catchers to play the game (with the possible exception of Josh Gibson, but we don't have the numbers for the Negro League).

who is having a monster postseason (and I'm glad he's having a chance to win a title), the Cubs choked it, plain and simple. They were at home, with their two studs on the mound - and couldn't win. That is choking.

But the memories of '84 are still painful, and now we have 2003 to add to them.

1989 was good. Great team. Won the division. Played in NLCS. Got soundly beaten by the Giants, 4 games to 1. No false hope. That was a much more humane way to lose.
