I hate Florida.

Just the name of the fucking state breeds contempt in my loins.

I don’t despise the people: It’s not fair to single out a group for living in a swampland that cannot count votes.

You spoil dreams, Florida. I went there, in the early 1980’s. I will not go back, unless I am paid to do...so fuck you. I broke a guy’s Slingerland kick pedal on a visit there and he forgave me...because he was from another hometown. You are a stupid state that breathes air from polluted swamp water.

You won an NLCS with bought players, much the Yankees do year-in and year-out. I lived for this year, and you spoiled it. I lived for Bill Clinton’s vindication, and you spoiled it by your mock election, orchestrated by the Monkey’s brother. I know that your borders are just a “state of mind,” but I say fuck you anyway.

I like one area in Florida: Pensacola. They have a way cool Air Force base; plus some kick-ass seafood (oysters and stuff) joints sitting atop some of the whitest beaches in the world). But, your state still sucks.

You have no idea about baseball or life, because you live in Florida. If you think you are so special, then I say this: you are a lurking Freeper...that lives in Florida.

This is a rant from a frustrated Cubs fan, so I beg your mercy. If not, then ban me for life like they did at FreeRepublic. I was looking for inspiration, yet I did not find it today.

I am from Florida and am proud most people would love to live here if only they could. The Marlins are a great inspiration. They are a team of family togetherness, winning when everybody wants them to lose. The Marlins should be your inspiration.

I lived near Wrigley while going to College. Why is it that I have to speak for the people of the North Side, anyway? Actually, I will stop, because I see the Cubs as a force for at least the next 4-5 years. I guess the symbolism gets to me too much.

2. actually, I like Florida

lived there for 7 years, and would move back there in a heartbeat. It has it's problems, like any place has problems, but there is a great deal of beauty there as well... the Florida Keys is without a doubt one of the best places in North America.

5. I am as disappointed as you

I really wanted the Cubs to win tonight. I wished for a Cubs/ Red Sox world series.

But about the 6th inning of today's game I started thinking. The Marlins deserve to win. They came back from a 3-1 deficit to win. They were 5 outs away from elimination before they started hitting. They scored first today, gave up the lead, and regained it without loosing hope.

They took advantage of the breaks they got. The fan interference, the Gonzales error, many things.

They also beat both Wood and Prior at home. Wood and Prior rarely loose back to back, especially at Wrigley.

The best team won tonight. No doubt in my mind. Although the Cubs deserved it more, the Marlins played better.

I live in Florida and I really wanted the Cubs to win. I got a kick out of seeing the Cubs fans and would have had a great time watching them in the World Series. I was extremely disappointed they lost that game last night.

The offshore gig sounds better, since blackfin tuna and wahoo are swimming with the sails.

Actually, Sarasota has some of the finest beaches in Florida, IMHO. But the Florida Keys are something very unique and very, very beautiful. I've been away for two years now, and I still miss Florida every day.

I too am a Cubs fan. But I'm not taking anything away from the Marlins. They really played well this series. Their defense was just spectacular.

But Florida is the last place that I myself would visit. I've been a few times, but I was non-plussed. I don't plan on ever going again.

Tourists, seniors, Disney, heat, humidity, Jeb, chads, flat topography, swamps, bugs, overcrowdedness......

I have no desire to go there. But that's just me.

I sometimes wonder about the people that decide to move there from other states--young people, I mean. An ex-boyfriend of mine moved there about ten years ago. Not long after Sept.11 I e-mailed him about Jeb signing an executive order the week before the attacks which called for imposing martial law in the event of a catastrophe of one sort or another. He had no idea what I was talking about. I sent him some links. He read them. His response, "Oh well, our wonderful Bush brothers :-( ".

Granted, none of these players are the best at their positions, but the Cubs don't exactly pass up on free agents if they can get them. The Marlins merely did what any other team in baseball would do and their combination of homegrown talent and free agents was better than the Cubs.

Summer? No, there is no year-round summer. A half year summer and a half year of beautiful spring/fall weather. The hottest I've seen in 25 years is 94 degrees.

Bugs? Well, yes, but actually no more than I saw in NJ (except for the cockroaches). Actually, biting flies and gnats were MUCH worse in NJ. Also, those nasty caterpillars that eat all the tree leaves in the spring are in the northeast too (not here).

Humidity? - Only in summer. See "summer" above.

High prices? - Not really. Homes and taxes are cheaper here by far than the northeast and west coast.

And who lives here? Folks from Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Illinois, a few Florida "crackers", along with folks from Cuba, Haiti, Guatemala, Great Britain, France, Canada, Mexico, Finland, Russia, Spain, Italy, etc., etc., etc. And this is just the people I know of in MY county.

When I lived in Houston, it was not uncommon for the locals to vacation in Florida. For the life of me, I could never figure out why.

...Longview/Tyler area...100 degree plus summers and 100% humidity....i'll give the daytona area this much...you at least get a breeze from the shore to cool down the humidity here...plus you can ride a motorcycle year 'round here...otherwise, volusia county is one of the poorest, lowest wage parts of florida. the homeless and drug problems of central florida are swept under the carpet when events roll in....i don't care much for the state either, but i have met some really great people here....

I spent 4 years in FL living in Tampa, Ft Lauderdale, Pompano Bch, and Miami. I was young and just left my cold Boston home. It was paradise to me back then. In spite of the bugs, snakes, rain, humidity, flatlands, crowds, rednecks/KKK, and the unimportance of education, I still managed to have a good time. Then I moved to San Diego and had another paradise to compare it to.
Back then I wasnt politically aware like I am now,and now I see a state that is being ravaged by racism, greed and neo-con ignorance.
I will not visit that state as long as Jeb is still the ruler.

And don't blame Bartman either. The Marlins played a good series and so did the Cubs. It was just bad luck that the Cubs lost.

Also, the Marlins do not have bought players. Mike Lowell, Derrick Lee, Luis Castillo, and many others on their pitching staff have been on the team since they were rookies a few years back so I fail to see the "bought team" logic. Don't spread that rumor bk it's simply not the case.
