Extra wrinkle: This could be the LAST start for Roger Clemens |

If the Yankees lose, that's it. End of an incredible career. Love him or hate him, but you cannot deny the dominance of Roger Clemens over the last 20 seasons.

1. One of the all-time greats |
|
It's been a few years since he was last dominant. But he's still one of the all-time greats.
I hope tonight is his last game. :-)

this game need any more drama.
*bouncebouncebounce* God I can't wait til I'm outta work and can go home and get comfy and immerse myself in the experience of THIS game. Moments like this don't come around every day. Gonna skip going to the gym and order in dinner I think so I don't have to miss a second. :-)

3. One of the few no-doubter Hall of Famers still playing. |
|
Clemens is a testament to the power of exercise and conditioning. 41 years old and can still be utterly dominant as a pitcher.

4. He'll be dominant again tonight |

unless something freakish happens. Used to be said that Rocket was a great pitcher who couldn't get it done in the big games (see: ALCS game against Pedro in Fenway 1999). He has totally and completely destroyed that premise. Roger will rock the house tonight. Pedro better be ready.

Martinez doesn't seem to pitch as well on short rest as Clemens does. That doesn't mean Martinez isn't capable of pitching well, but he hasn't exactly been invincible in the playoffs even when well-rested. I'd give a slight advantage to New York because of this, but we'll see.

13. They're not pitching on short rest |
|
They pitched Saturday. It's a full 5 days.
This is such a toss-up on stats. I give the Red Sox the edge with the way the bullpen has acted in the post season. Totally awesome. :)

Not the best in baseball over the last 20 years.
For sheer dominance - Randy Johnson, by far.
But the Rocket should be a first-ballot HOFer, no problem. Too bad he had to bean Mike Piazza or else maybe I'd be rooting for him tonight.

7. Give me one pitcher for one game right now |
|
and I'll take Pedro. I don't care how much rest he has. He will have a live arm tonight for at least five innings. They just have to keep an eye on him and pull him as soon as he starts to tire.
My fearless prediction is 1-0 Sox in a pitcher's duel. At least that's what I want to see happen.

8. When he goes to the Hall of Fame will he wear a Yankee or Red Sox hat? |
|
I know that's been a big stink with some other notable Hall of Famers, last one I remember was both Dave Winfield (San Diego or Yankees) and Sparky Anderson (Reds or Tigers - he picked the Reds).

according to the HOF assholes -- he'll be wearing a Red Sox cap because the team he started with is the team he'll go to HOF into...
See Tony Gwynn's dilemma and Dave Winfield's dilemma (If I remember correctly)

11. Clemens said............ |
|
earlier this year that if the Hall Of Fame does not allow him to go in as a Yankee he will just not attend the induction ceremonies........we'll have to wait 5 years and see what happens........

12. Sparky Anderson had the same problem |
|
He actually spent more years as a manager with the Detroit Tigers but he opted to go in as a Cincinnati Reds. His decision was because Cincinnati was the first team he managed and the fact that he was the manager of the Big Red Machine back in the 70's. Almost half the team (that's eligible) is already in the HOF including Bench, Morgan and Perez (Pete Rose would be in there  ).
So Sparky wears a Reds Cap!!! YEAH!!!!

The HOF decides not the player. But I'm not 100% sure of that.

But since Clemen's won his titles with the Yankees, I'm sure he'll get to go in with a NY on his cap.

17. I think you're correct, MaineDem |
|
It's the number of years in a specific organization, I think. Clemens was with the Sox for longer.
