I have all this energy so I've been dusting and cleaning my living room. My husband is thrilled! :D

I'm hoping this will be an instant classic game. I hope both pitchers are exquisite...with Pedro just that little bit better. ;)

Enjoy, gang!

Ill be happy if the Yanks destroy the Sox 11-2. But Im hoping for a 3-2 come from behind win on a 2-run HR by Jeter in the bottom of the 9th. Damn......its better than any drug.

5. Feh! Face it, Sox fans
And I say this with all due rancor toward the Yankees, but with two such closely-matched teams, you have to look toward the starting pitchers to make your decision. I don't recall Martinez being all that great in the Big Game Situation. Clemens, though, is a total animal and would throw the ball through a brick wall to beat the other team.

I have to give the edge to Clemens and the Yankees, especially since Rivera is well-rested and ready to saw off some bats should the Yanks be ahead after the 7th inning. The best defense against Rivera for the Sox is to have their offense clicking and be up by three, four or five runs come time for the Stretch.

I hope I'm very wrong.

11. Rivera looked pretty hittable the last 2-3 games
And teams figure out how to hit Clemens's fastball after a game or two or three.

But Martinez is probably the trouble spot, that's true. His arm probably is shot, as it usually is this late in the season. (That's why he tends to blow Big Games, really.)

I figure the Sox win against the Yankees when they score five or more runs, lose if held to three, as a general rule this season.

26. Morons and baseball are hardly exclusive
Edited on Thu Oct-16-03 07:58 PM by 5thGenDemocrat
True story about the Red Sox and me: The very first major league baseball game I ever covered as a reporter was a Boston/Detroit game on Apr 4, 1986 and a highlight of that experience was a ten-question or so interview with Bill Buckner.
Buckner chewed a combination of bubble gum and chewing tobacco and when he leaned in to give a response (we were sitting on the bench in the Boston dugout), ol' Bill's breath was full of tobaccoey goodness. The pink and brown confection was, in this smoker's personal opinion, was one of the woofiest things I have ever seen.
Still, Buckner was personally kind and gracious to me. I felt horrible for him when that ground ball skipped between his legs in the '86 World Series. He is a former NL batting champ, after all -- but he'll be remembered for that damned grounder.
John
The Tigers won 3-2, IIRC, and Vada Pinson told me that the hat I was wearing was "groovy."
ON EDIT: On re-reading the title of this post, I should add that I am not inferring that either Bill Buckner or Red Sox fans themselves are, per se, morons.

As an O's fan I've had my team's heads thrown at by both, so I like neither. Give me a Greg Maddux style of pitcher any day of the week.

But of the two, let's put it this way. I strongly dislike Martinez, but I ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY LOATHE Clemens.

75. Giambi hits 2nd HR
4-2 Sox. Things may be getting interesting. Lets see if the Sox bullpen can hold on one last time if needed.

76. Are things unraveling
Millar just slipped and fell. Hopefully Boston can calm down. They've still got this under control.

77. Giambi cranks another one out. 4-2 Sox.
Looks like he had something to prove after being moved down in the batting order.

87. Wells in
The pitcher throws the hanging curve
The batter, he's no dope
He waits until the ball doth swerve
Then strokes the frozen rope.

Take that, Grantland Rice!

94. If the Sox had an 180 mil payroll they could have
brought an 88.5 mil contract starter in to relieve, too. Let's not even talk about the revenue advantage NY has. What a great accomplishment for your team, Yankees fans. :eyes:

Martinez is great, but he just didn't have the good snap on his pitches like he did earlier in the game.

He's done a fantastic job.

(If Pedro gets the second out, you'd be claiming he's a genius.)

Yankee Stadium. Yelling, obnoxious fans making life a living hell for the Red Sox. And of course, this is the Red Sox in October. Isn't something just bound to go wrong?
