I'm 42 years old and have always WANTED to serve on a jury. i've been called twice in my life, and both times was released from duty after being there for 3 hours.

I'm unemployed now... they oughtta take volunteers :)

There are a lot of people who can volunteer, like retirees, people like you, who are unemployed and students and seasonal workers who have off time during the year. For people who have jobs it is really a burden at times. Employers get very unhappy. Jury duty pay doesn't make up for the loss in wages, and if it is a trial that lasts for months or even more than a year, it screws up any life the juror has.

It seems to me that the one time I was one jury duty, I received some sort of brochure saying I was expected to dress properly. Look over whatever you got to make sure you can get away with t-shirts of any sort.

Even if this is your opinion and you support it 100%, - and I agree with your right to do so, the courthouse is not the place to make your statement.

Depending on the nature of the trial, it may get you tossed out of the jury. Depending on the nature of the laws and whatever codes of dress may be in force in your jurisdiction, you may be dismissed from the jury or fined for misconduct. But worse you may needlessly cause a miscarriage of justice and waste a vast amount of taxpayer monies. If you're seated on a case involving allegations of illegal drug transactions, then remove a jacket to show that shirt, the case will likely be declared in mistrial. Everyone relevant to the case will have to be paid for the time they wasted in guarding the accused, and bringing the case to trial, and then paid again while they resort a fitting jury.

Save the shirt for the campaign trail, or proudly wear it while sitting in on a public session of your state's legislature.

21. I'm 55 and never served

on a jury and would love to. I've only been called once, and after sitting in the courtroom all day listening to lawyers describe the upcoming trial, and sitting through the process of selecting the twelve jurors, I finally got dismissed when my turn came because I had an out of town trip starting in two days, and the trial was expected to last three.
