Poll question: Have you ever been to THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW?

If so, about how many times? Just once? Five, ten, fifty? More times than McDonald's has sold Big Macs? Enquiring minds want to know!

on Friday nights for awhile... 10, 20 times? hard to remember... it's mostly a drug-induced blur...

3. Once when I was a teenager
Back in the seventies. I did a lot of stuff back then that didn't make much sense.

4. More times than McDonalds has sold Big Macs
Used to go every damn weekend in the Village. Unfortunately since the Borg (aka yuppies) took over the neighborhood it's not fun anymore, they complain about the noise and the weirdos, etc. :(

I'm forced to shout back to my tv now.

Having stumbled onto the RHPS cult when I was 17 is one of the best things that ever happened to me. After 17 years of almost total isolation from my so-called "peers," I finally discovered a venue where people actually liked me for who I was.

Getting into "Rocky Horror" 20 years ago was the first step toward my becoming the raving leftist I am today. Thank you, Richard O'Brien!

12. lips!

Here is a basic list of props and instructions for their use in participation to RHPS. This list may vary according to theater policy or local customs.

1 ) Rice - At the beginning of the film is the wedding of Ralph Hapschatt and Betty Munroe. As the newlyweds exit the church, you should throw the rice along with the on-screen wedding guests.

2) Newspapers - When Brad and Janet are caught in the storm, Janet covers her head with a newspaper The "Plain Dealer". At this point, you should likewise cover your head.

3) Water pistols - These are used by members of the audience to simulate the rainstorm that Brad and Janet are caught in. (Now do you see why you should use the newspapers?)

4) Candles, flashlights - During the "There's a light" verse of "Over at the Frankenstein Place, "you should light up the theater with candles, flashlights, lighters, etc. (Be careful to respect the theater's policy about open flames - remember you are wearing newspapers on your head!)

5) Rubber gloves - During and after the creation speech, Frank snaps his rubber gloves three times. Later, Magenta pulls these gloves off his hands. You should snap your gloves in sync each time to create a fantastic sound effect.

6) Noisemakers - At the end of the creation speech, the Transylvanians respond with applause and noisemakers. You should do the same.

7) Confetti - At the end of the "Charles Atlas Song" reprise, the Transylvanians throw confetti as Rocky and Frank head toward the bedroom. You should do the same.

8) Toilet paper - When Dr. Scott enters the lab, Brad cries out "Great Scott!" At this point, you should hurl rolls of toilet paper into the air. (Preferably Scotts.)

9) Toast - When Frank proposes a toast at dinner, members of the audience throw toast into the air. (Preferably unbuttered - things could get sticky.)

l0) Party hat -At the diner table, when Frank puts on a party hat, you should do the same.

11) Bell - During the song "Planet Schmanet," ring the bell when Frank sings "Did you hear a bell ring?"

12) Cards - During the song "I'm Going Home" Frank sings "Cards for sorrow, cards for pain". At this point you should shower the theater with cards.

13) Hot dogs and prunes - it has happened on occasion, that fans will throw hot dogs and prunes at their appropriate mention in the film. This should not be encouraged because it attracts rodents and leaves stains on the screen.

14. Kind of
I took a theater appreciation class in college to get rid of one of the base requirements. Before fall break, the teacher decided to show us "Rocky," and he invited his theater friends to come to help add to it. The theater friends went a little bit nutso though and brought stuff that you're not allowed to bring into theaters anymore - hot dogs, eggs, etc. One of them also tried to get the toilet paper rolls off of the bathroom dispensers, and when he couldn't he just ripped the whole thing off of the wall.

I remember the head of the Spanish department walked in (not to join in the fun, but he had a question for the theater appreciation prof). I yelled out, "Sientate pendejo!" which is Spanish for "Sit down, asshole." Something we were told was yelled out when people came in late. He smiled and scanned the crowd (it was dark). He more than likely knew it was me. :)

The professor apologized the next class period. He didn't think his friends would get that rowdy. He said he spent a good 2 hours cleaning up the classroom after it was over.

18. Not since the Oriental Theatre in Milwaukee
became a "cineplex" and divided the rustic theatre with a bunch of stupid walls to make it possible to show six movies simultaneously. Movies which, BTW, suck ass.

19. hey
I saw it during its initial run when it bombed at the box office! I loved it and have seen it a few times since at the theater. My all time favorite line:

Frankenfurter - "It's no crime to give yourself over to absolute pleasure."

Someone in the audience in Austin, Texas - "IT IS IN TEXAS!!!!!!!!!!!"

After all, one HAS to "do the Time Warp" AGAIN.
John
And you ain't crazy. I thought Columbia was damned hot too. So, for that matter, is Susan Sarandon -- whose October 4 birthday I share. She's exactly ten years older than I am (1946/1956).
Charlton Heston's b'day is October 4 as well, and so is Alicia Silverstone's. She is exactly 20 years younger than I am.
Maybe I'll go again this year. It's fun.

This particular show had actors out in front of the screen doing something. I forget what it was. There were people there dressed as their favorite character and lots of rice throwing.
