Feed a cold, starve a fever? What if you have both?!?
Ugh, I'm miserable. All of my stand-bys (tea, rest, Vitamin C and zinc) seem to be doing nothing. I'm so disoriented, I can't remember ... is it "feed a cold, starve a fever," or the other way around?!?

Damn viruses...

1. Yes feed a cold, starve a fever but BOTH need fluids
Keep an eye on your temperature and if it goes over 101 you need to see a doctor or go to an ER ( I am not certain of your age but fevers and infections in adults can result in sepsis)

Basic foods are rice, tea, colas and dry toast just TAKE FLUIDS.

Best to avoid acidic juices and go for the grape juice or something abit less irritating to the stomach especially since you are on the BEXTRA.

4. Thank you, dear
I've been drinking lots of good fluids.

I'm 34 and my fever is 101.6, but it is going down from earlier this am. UGH.

I think it's this crappy weather that's done it! Can't wait to get down to LA for a little decent sunshine!

2. Try turmeric
Take a glass of almost-boiling water and stir in a small pat of butter and a teaspoon or so of turmeric. Sounds awful, but it really helps!

I think you've got the adage right: "feed a cold, starve a fever." I hope you feel better, flamingyouth! :hi:

6. Sounds like what's going around here
I thought I had it already, but I can feel my sinuses starting to seize up and my voice is giving out...and I have to work a bingo tonight.

7. Ugh - good luck with the bingo!
Is there smoking at this event? I hope not. Hope your voice holds out. I have a friend who's a lounge singer, and she sucks on aspirin before singing if her throat is bothering her. Gross, I know, but I tried it once and it works. It's amazing what you'll do if you're totally desperate for relief...

8. Reminds me of the age old question
What happens if you take x-lax and Immodium AD at the same time?

I just recently got over an ugly cold/flu with vitamins, Nyquil, green tea and 5 days of rest.

9. You need sleep. Turn off the computer now.
Take two aspirin and check back in the morning.

10. Food will make your temp higher...
but listen to your body. You probably don't need to starve your fever unless the body temperature is over 101 F or you have a stomach virus, in which case you probably don't feel like eating anyway.

If you're hungry, you might try things like chicken noodle soup, plain chicken broth, or soda crackers.

It's most important to keep hydrated. If your stomach is upset, try slowly sipping on crushed ice or ginger ale.

Feel better!

14. a hot toddy-- with LOTS of lemon and honey, and some
good, homemade chicken soup with LOTS of garlic and onions, and some saffron (or safflower) and a bit of rice.

jasmine tea with galliano is also nice, and taking a nice, hot soak in the tub.

more healing vibes coming your way.
