Anyone out there who has ever tried to find work as a journalist..
Ever feel like all the wanted ads are directed more towards you car and camera rather than your journalistic ability?

5. When I got a part-time reporting job
for the local repuke rag in my college town in '89, during college, all they cared about was what kind of car I drove and what my insurance policy was. The pay sucked royally, and I finally left 'cause I couldn't take the repuke bullshit, I couldn't afford it, and it was interfering with my schooling.

6. was one
Hey HeyHey, Mrs. Old and in the Way here. I was a newspaper reporter for 15 years. And yup, the only thing they cared about on my first job was if I had a camera and a reliable insured car. Stayed on that job at terrible wages for less than two years and then got a job with the state's largest daily. The best part about my first job was that I learned ever aspect of putting together and publishing a newspaper.I moved up the ladder very quickly which I think most reporters do and got a great paying job with the daily. Take a job with any paper you can find, you will be on your way in no time...Or at least you will meet someone, like a politician or businessman, who can advance your career in another direction. It is the greatest job for getting your name out there and being known. Good luck.

I'm pretty sure I'm close to something. I turned one down last week on account it was too soft a paper. Only slightly second guessing myself on that one so far. We'll see.

9. as an aside
I thought I was going to turn the world on its ear with my writing. Funny, only editors can do that because they control what gets read. If you need any help..please let me know...

8. Yes, as my first editor put it....
Newspaper beat reporters. Where getting there means everything, and being there means nothing.
