Old Moody Blues Lyrics
Edited on Fri Oct-17-03 07:18 PM by NaMeaHou
I think
I think I am
therefore I am
I think

Of course you are, my bright little star
I've miles and miles of files
pretty files of your forefathers fruit
and now to suit
Our GREAT computer
you're magnetic ink

I'm more than that
I know I am
at least, I think I must be

There you go man
keep as cool as you can
Face piles of trials with smiles
It riles them to believe that you perceive
the web they weave
so keep on thinking free

from "Threshold of a Dream"

any other great Moody lyrics you want to add?

1. This may have been their 80's top 40 sappy, semi-lame song
However, it's one of the few songs I have ever heard that has had the ability to make me cry:

In Your Wildest Dreams

Once upon a time
Once when you were mine
I remember skies
Reflected in your eyes
I wonder where you are
I wonder if you
Think about me
Once upon a time
In your wildest dreams

Once the world was new
Our bodies felt the morning dew
That greets the brand new day
We couldn't tear ourselves away
I wonder if you care
I wonder if you still remember
Once upon a time
In your wildest dreams

And when the music plays
And when the worlds are
Touched with sorrow
When the music plays
I hear the sound
I had to follow
Once upon a time

Once beneath the stars
The universe was ours
Love was all we Knew
And all I knew was you
I wonder if you know
I wonder if you
Think about it
Once upon a time
In your wildest dreams

And when the music plays
And when the words are
Touched with sorrow
When the music plays
And when the music plays
I hear the sound
I had to follow
Once upon a time

Once upon a time
Once when you were mine
I remember skies
Mirrored in your eyes
I wonder where you are
I wonder if you
Think about me
Once upon a time
In your wildest dreams

In your wildest dreams
In your wildest dreams

5. I always think of someone I am still in love with from the 80's
when I hear that song. I wonder if she ever thinks of me?

We had a thing for a summer then she went back to WA.

24. I remember that video
It was the first time I had ever heard the Moody Blues. A few years later a friend of mine got into their early stuff, and we actually saw them play live once.

4. A Question of Balance

Question

Why do we never get an answer
When we're knocking at the door
With a thousand million questions
About hate and death and war?
'Cos when we stop and look around us,
There is nothing that we need,
In a world of persecution that is burning in its greed.
Why do we never get an answer
When we're knocking at the door
Because the truth is hard to swallow
That's what the war of love is for.

It's not the way that you say it
When you do those things to me
It's more the way that you mean it
When you tell me what will be.

And when you stop and think about it
You won't believe it's true
That all the love you've been giving
Has all been meant for you.

I'm looking for someone to change my life,
I'm looking for a miracle in my life,
And if you could see what it's done to me,
To lose the love I knew
Could safely lead me through.

Between the silence of the mountains,
And the crashing of the sea,
There lies a land I once lived in,
And she's waiting there for me,
But in the grey of the morning,
My mind becomes confused,
Between the dead and the sleeping,
And the road that I must chose.

I'm looking for someone to change my life,
I'm looking for a miracle in my life,
And if you could see what it's done to me,
To lose the love I knew
Could safely lead me to,
The land that I once knew,
To learn as we grow old,
The secrets of our soul.

It's not the way that you say it
When you do those things to me,
It's more the way you really mean it
When you tell me what will be.

Why do we never get an answer
When we're knocking at the door
With a thousand million questions
About hate and death and war?
'Cos when we stop and look around us,
There is nothing that we need,
In a world of persecution that is burning in its greed.

Why do we never get an answer
When we're knocking at the door
Because the truth is hard to swallow
That's what the war of love is for.

7. Making me sad, here.
Reminds me of sitting in the dorm, drinking beer and listening to Threshold, when it was current, and we were young(er).

What I wouldn't give, for a 'vacation' in 1969!!!!!

11. Wouldn't that be something?
Imagine, I am 'back there', I suddenly appear in my old dorm room. The whole gang is there again, but I have to be careful what I say, or they will know that I have been all the way to 2003. Or think I have totally 'lost it'.

Could we change anything we did, while there? Or might that be dangerous, as in "Back to the Future"???

9. The Story in Your Eyes
living with a sense of revolution in the air in the late 60's, i always felt this song captured both the spirit of building a new society and the eerie sadness that our revolution would eventually be crushed and all we could do to survive then was huddle together ... here are the lyrics:

The Story In Your Eyes

I've been thinking about our fortune
And I've decided that we're really not to blame
For the love that's deep inside us now
Is still the same

And the sounds we make together
Is the music to the story in your eyes
It's been shining down upon me now
I realize

Listen to the tide slowly turning
Wash all our heartaches away
We're part of the fire that is burning
And from the ashes we can build another day

But I'm frightened for your children
That the life that we are living is in vain
And the sunshine we've been waiting for
Will turn to rain

Listen to the tide slowly turning
Wash all our heartaches away
We're part of the fire that is burning
And from the ashes we can build another day

But I'm frightened for the children
That the life that we are living is in vain
And the sunshine we've been waiting for
Will turn to rain

When the final line is over
It's certain that the curtain's gonna fall
I can hide inside your sweet sweet love
For ever more

14. sometimes i wonder
whether we could be a more potent political force if we were all listening to the same music ...

there is way more variety today and i think that only serves to divide us ... we used to listen to richie havens doing "Freedom" or CSN&Y doing "Ohio" and we were all travelling on the same vibes ...

i miss that in more than just a nostalgic kind of way ...

10. I love the Moody Blues
Take your share of the gifs that are there.
They all belong to you.
And come what may at the break of each day
We all begin anew once more,
We all begin anew.

13. From "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour"
"I don't know what I'm searching for;
I never have opened the door.
Tomorrow might find me at last
Turning my back on the past
But time will tell of stars that fell
A million years ago.
Memories can never take you back home, sweet home,
You can never go home anymore."

"Love can change the world,
Love can change your life.
Do what makes you happy,
Do what you know is right
And love with all your might
Before it's too late."

21. Nights in White Satin
From the 1967 album "Days of Future Passed". I too remember my college days listening to the Moody Blues as well as all the other great artist of that era. This particular album is always been one of my favorites, since all the songs seem to flow into one another. The other songs off this album are:

The Day Begins
Dawn: Dawn Is A feeling
The Morning: Another Morning
Lunch Break: Peak Hour
The Afternoon: Forever Afternoon (Tuesday?)
Evening: The Sun Set: Twilight Time
The Night: Nights In White Satin

The Night: Nights In White Satin
(Justin Hayward and Graeme Edge)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nights In White Satin
(Justin Hayward)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nights in white satin,
Never reaching the end,
Letters I've written,
Never meaning to send.

Beauty I'd always missed
With these eyes before,
Just what the truth is
I can't say anymore.

'Cause I love you,
Yes, I love you,
Oh, how, I love you.

Gazing at people,
Some hand in hand,
Just what I'm going thru
They can understand.

Some try to tell me
Thoughts they cannot defend,
Just what you want to be
You will be in the end,

And I love you,
Yes, I love you,
Oh, how, I love you.
Oh, how, I love you.

Nights in white satin,
Never reaching the end,
Letters I've written,
Never meaning to send.

Beauty I'd always missed
With these eyes before,
Just what the truth is
I can't say anymore.

'Cause I love you,
Yes, I love you,
Oh, how, I love you.
Oh, how, I love you.

'Cause I love you,
Yes, I love you,
Oh, how, I love you.
Oh, how, I love you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Late Lament
(Graeme Edge)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Breathe deep the gathering gloom,
Watch lights fade from every room.
Bedsitter people look back and lament,
Another day's useless energy spent.
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one,
Lonely man cries for love and has none.
New mother picks up and suckles her son,
Senior citizens wish they were young.
Cold hearted orb that rules the night,
Removes the colours from our sight.
Red is grey and yellow white.
But we decide which is right.
And which is an illusion???.

23. "Your Wildest Dreams"
My all-time favorite MB tune. It used to haunt me.

"Your Wildest Dreams"

Once upon a time
Once when you were mine
I remember skies
Reflected in your eyes
I wonder where you are
I wonder if you
Think about me
Once upon a time
In your wildest dreams

Once the world was new
Our bodies felt the morning dew
That greets the brand new day
We couldn't tear ourselves away
I wonder if you care
I wonder if you still remember
Once upon a time
In your wildest dreams

And when the music plays
And when the words are
Touched with sorrow
When the music plays
I hear the sound
I had to follow
Once upon a time
Once beneath the stars
The universe was ours
Love was all we knew
And all I knew was you
I wonder if you know
I wonder if you think about it
Once upon a time
In your wildest dreams

And when the music plays
And when the words are
Touched with sorrow
When the music plays
And when the music plays
I hear the sound
I had to follow
Once upon a time

Once upon a time
Once when you were mine
I remember skies
Mirrored in your eyes
I wonder where you are
I wonder if you
Think about me
Once upon a time
In your wildest dreams
In your wildest dreams
In your wildest dreams

25. Lyrics
Igot a comment to make..
The moody blues give me hope. When I feel like everything sucks I put on the moody blues to remember my heart is still beating and there is beauty out there if I just look for it..

When I listen to some of the music now,yes it is creative, and talented people make it...The lyrics are so tragic sometimes it just brings me down and takes away hope.
And I notice it's all about self destruction, murder, hopeless dispair.
Lyrics about killing yourself in first person wording. It's about rape and hate.
If you sing along with those kinds of lyrics you are telling yourself you want to die.And when a tune is good, and catchy.. people like to sing along with it and groove .It's natural.I know alot of people will pooh pooh the idea that well crafted music can set an emotional environment and it can effect your moods, your motivation, perspective on yourself and the outlook into your future as if words have no effect.

I know people who would censor jump on stuff like this, and just because they do have a point it doesen't mean they have wisdom in what to do about it. Do you ever wanna cry or get up and dance when you listen to a certain song? Than obviously it's making an impact on you emotionally..Affirmations for good or for bad, that you hear from other sources around you and what you tell yourself can impact you psychologically, alter self esteem and perspective, over time. This is one reason among many why we seek and give affirmation and support to each other in awards, compliments and advice.
Marketers use this repetitive affrimation thing to full advantage while they deny it has effects..I mean how do so many people believe Saddam vand Bin Laden are connected still?

Likewise, people who are abused verbally are slowly torn apart inside bit by bit by those cruel words and thier lives ARE affected.I can attest to this personally. And if verbal cruelty goes on long enough the person begins to believe the insults hurled at them are true and they start repeating what the abuser says by themself.
If it can happen to an individual who can says a destructive effect on the national psyche can't happen to a culture made of individuals when the individuals in pain from verbal abuse, and those abusing because they are hurting reaches a certain threshold in the masses in the population?

So I gotta wonder while it is good to express the angst of this world, and to do it artistically and freely..I gotta wonder what has happened to the other side of life contained in the poetic empowering beauty and hope like the moody blues sang about? Who is affriming the positive anymore? Why has warmth and caring become so unpopular?
If you are wondering where the warm atmosphere of support, vibrancy peace, love and empowerment in the political/personal spheres that once were around in the 60's have gone, turn on the radio and give it a listen.I find if I listen too long it will bring me down, feeling effort to help or change things is worthless, apathetic, feeling hopeless and hating this life and humanity. There is so much frustration,angst,rage..Combine what's on the radio with what's on TV,rage homocide, court pornography, bitter comics making fun of someone's shortcomings or suffering, as if it's funny another person is hurt..the constant fear-mongering on the news, and the hyped up materialistic shallowness of our culture..it's tough to feel happy about being alive, and feel freindship with fellow human beings or care about this planet.
Retro comes back, and it's popular with teens..why? It was Abbie Hoffman who said nostagia is a form of depression.A bit prophetic of him I think.

Fundie Christian rock artists ,like P.O.D. and whatnot try to fill in the emotional hole with thier jesus-propaganda wrapped in popular music styles..This is very disturbing to me,because some of these churches harm people psychologicakly and have ugly political/corporate ties and no accountability to anyone about what they do with tithe money..I wonder why other artists with hopeful messages in thier music without selling jesus are not being promoted as much?

American adults, and american youth have a scary depression/suicide rate.Fundamentalists have the higest rates of suicide and divorce of any other denomination of christian church,I think part of this could be in how they interpret the bible in dispensationalism and lieralism. There is damage done to your spirit when you get wrapped up in thier rigid legalistic mind games.

In the 60's there was hope ,joy, innocence and beauty in the music lyrics because there was room in the cultural mindspace for the other side of human emotions, like empowerment, love, hope, warmth, sentimentalness, tenderness,
uniqueness,freedom,connection,
interdependance,creativity and spirituality
and the knowlege as you experinced it you became it.

I was too young to really be a part of 60's culture.I wish I was tho. But my sisters were hippies and they taught me alot about hippy morals of caring for others, that sensitivity matters, respect of differences and all that liberal wisdom.I was a punk as a teen ,but I always adored the hippe/yippie message. My sisters taught me the importance of putting flowers in my hair as a kid. So,I wore flowers in my mowhawk too,(still do).I was looked at as a weirdo by the more cynical/trendy types who didn't understand hippe culture because I listened to the Moody blues alongside the dead kennedys, holst the planets, and tangerine dream.(I read my sister's Abby Hoffman's books in elementary school(Revolution for the hell of it and steal this book)It was empoweing as anything then and as far as I'm concerned it still is empowering even tho it's dated.

I secretly envy the old greying hippies, those way out rainbow people for thier experinces and wisdom.I hope that the old hippies can someday speak up,teach in, and shake off the shackles of cynicism and materialism and talk heart to heart to the sad kids and jaded adults out there .. About hope about power, and wisdom of lovingkindness for each other, teach people how to share without fear, explore the mind, think freely, love freely,to not be afraid of who they really are, and finally understand what freedom really means, and what it requires out of each of us to be free and how to tune in turn on and drop out of societty when it goes dreadfully wrong. again.

I still wonder to myself, how can people nowadays really understand what a real life alternative to this sick authoritarian, materialistic, bullying, cynical society might look like when The Hippies, who have gone where no culture has gone before won't try to really live as an example of the spirit of the summer of love anymore to show them it's even possible?

The lyrics of popular songs I fear, reflect what was lost in our society when the vision of the hippies was abandoned.Couldn't it be when the hippies lost that focus,on a better way of relating,of seeing..and they faded into 'adulthood's lure of simple black and white simplicity under stress, quiet suburbia, soccer mom, nascar dad, money to be made,me me me and fuck everyone else. Don't give into that awful turning away,to the 'practical'and cynical lure of cowardice expressed by 'the way it is' and 'powers that be'.

I feel the Hippies lost a piece of thier spirit,in getting by,they lost a piece of themselves in corporate america. And we as a nation are suffering because of it. Isn't it time to get some gumption,to reach inside yourselves into the power of your memories to bring back the joy, and empowerment you hippes know and give it to everyone and spread it around. Old hippes don't have to fade away you know...because..they are needed now more than ever to plant some new flowers in someone's hair before it's too late.

Don't let the idealogical/political equivalent of montsano tinker with the liberal DNA of the seeds of freedom and hope that make the flowers of the future bloom like the flowers of the past that made meaningful change happen..Some people can't even realize when they've sold themselves out because they think there is nothing inside to sell.
Just listen to the radio, and weep.
