1. No, what you have to do is
Download an anti-spyware program.

I use Ad-Aware.

You can download it here:

http://download.com.com/3000-2094-10045910.html?legacy=cnet

However, there are other programs. But I use this one.

You're computer will run a lot better after you run a scan.

2. It is, and that is an atrocious shirt I see!
You should download and use ad-aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/) to clean off spyware from your computer.

3. Norton and McAfee won't

The firewalls don't even stop them.

Go to CNET and look up two programs: AdAware and Spybot. Or do a Google search.

More than likely, you will have at least some spyware on your system, whether it be harmless (tracking cookies) to just plain nasty (TopText, Cydoor, Bonzi, etc.). Th nasty stuff bogs down your system and might direct you to some funny web pages. They may even act like viruses.

Use both programs. One detects stuff the other doesn't and vice-versa). The result? You should be rid of spyware.

6. I second Spybot!
It picks up more things than Ad-Aware doesn't.

9. Spy Bot, Ad Aware *AND* Spy Sweeper.
Leave Spy Sweeper on to shield cookies, memory and homepage.

Run by GRC.com and *check your ports*!

And of course, don't talk to strangers.

4. You need to follow this advice
I just had our friend the techie come over today and he even found a 900-number on our computer! How the F did that happen? I have no idea, but yes, install and run both SpyBot and AdAware. The more tech savvy folks here can give you the URLs for them.

I was freaked out. Those firewalls are good for nothing.

8. When I ran Adaware the first time I had 1100 hits of
spyware. There is a lot of it out there.
