1. Awesome!
It's great of them to open up!

I hope it takes off, as I recall they're the best of the pay-for-music-downloads services and actually allow some freedom with the downloaded music.

3. Download to other players? Y & N
I have a Rio 500 and an iPod. iTunes recognizes the Rio just fine, works flawlessly with it. No drivers or anything needed (at least on a Mac). But you can load only MP3's onto the Rio. So, any music you already have, either dl'd as mp3's or converted from your own cd's, work fine. iTunes does a great job of ripping the cd's, and you can then upload the playlists to the Rio. Piece of cake.

BUT...

The music you download from the Apple Music Store are mp4's. They are smaller than mp3's, but have much better quality sound. Closer to cd quality. The iPod will take mp3's and the mp4's. But almost nothing else plays mp4's yet.

7. iTunes for Windows — Apple's hidden agenda - TGM
iTunes for Windows isn't just music software, it's a competitive advantage for Apple and a shot across the bow of Microsoft, Real, MusicMatch and other companies that make music and multimedia software.

The iTunes Music Store is only part of this story. Apple is giving Windows users a taste of the Mac experience, first via the iPod and now via free software that competes directly with Microsoft and others.

Very intentional. Very interesting.

From a home/general/creative designer user point of view I like the mac. I'm sure not how it's looked at from a programmers points of view?
