I desperately need a hug
I hate asking for a hug but today has been a very bad day.

As some of you know, my husband is an MP. The soldiers in Karbala were our own...not my husband's company but my husband's BN. Men and women they have worked with since April. Our company did send a platoon to Karbala but we still don't know if they got there before, during or after the fighting began...we won't know until tomorrow if some of the injured were from our company or not.

From early this morning until 2 PM , a bunch of spouses sat and waited..and waited...and waited...to hear the names of the dead.

It's a death vigil like no other. It's not one you can share while it's happening because you're ever under the admonishment of "rumor" control. So all you have is each other....faces twisted by pain...each of us locked in our own personal hell of fear and guilt..fear that it's our loved one..guilt that we pray it isn't.. and each sharing the painful knowledge that "somebody I know has lost their soldier"
..offering what comfort we can in a world turned upside down

I don't know how much more of this I can take. I want to be strong but I grow so weary of the dying..so weary of the waiting and wondering.

I'm sorry to unload but I must get this off my chest or explode.

I want my husband home. I'm not made of the stuff that got wives through WWII. The last phone call I had with my husband, he said "I wish I believed I was making a difference.."

To think any soldier died thinking that just shreds my heart to pieces..They shouldn't have to die in vain.

5. Big Hugs!
In WWII, it was probably a justifible war. So one can say one's loved one sacrificed for a greater good.
This war, they are sacrificing themselves for corporatism and petitroi Bu$hie II.
You have my profond and deepfelt sympathies, as well as your group. May the peace of God be with you.

It's an especially tough job.
I want your husband home, too. A great big hug to you (and I am REALLY not the huggy type).
John
BTW, you ARE made up of exactly the same stuff that got wives through WWII. My mom worried about my dad during Korea, and my nephew's wife is sweating out his assignment in the Middle East (thankfully, Kuwait, not Iraq). Be strong. We're all pulling for you.

16. I am truly sorry for you, your family, and your extended family.
This has to be extremely stressful for you. Every day, the situation seems to get worse and I see absolutely no plan coming from the geniuses that put our soldiers in harm's way.

I hope there is a special place in hell for the un-elected war-profiteers who have made this situation happen.

Big hug and I hope your husband makes it back soon.

of (((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))

To you and all the spouses. You and your husband are making a differnce just by being there. You, by your love, knowledge, and support. Your husband, by his caring for the world and wanting to make a difference.

I won't pretend that I was for this Iraq war, but I do know that the soldiers want to help to stabilize and improve the Iraqi's lives.

None of the soldiers die in vain. They went to fight for our country. That was their mission. They are patriots. I dislike the leaders and the mission, but not the soldiers.

Though the invasion/occupation of Iraq is a vile atrocity, I still believe your husband is making a difference simply by doing his job. It's got to be one of the toughest jobs on earth...especially when he doesn't agree with his superiors.

I hope he's home soon too Solly. I'll keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.

Our Son-in-law is an MP stationed in Hawaii and has been told to expect deployment to Iraq at any time. We are heartsick. I have had to educate him about all the issues, including but not limited to depleted uranium, veterans bennie cuts, paying for his own meals should he become wounded, etc. We join you in your wish for a safe return of your husband and all the other men and women who have given their all. Come by for a hug anytime at all.

Oh Solly! Please don't feel alone. Although I can't fully empathize the way the other spouses can, please know we are watching and waiting with you as much as we can.

I didn't agree with getting us into this war in the first place, but I certainly don't blame the soldiers for doing their job. And I certainly don't think any of them die in vain. They go to make a difference. And perhaps sometimes the difference we make isn't the one we planned on, but it is a difference nonetheless.

54. Another hug ((((Solly))))
Sometimes it's good to be old and not have a husband or lover off in a foreign land in a war he did not create (or agree with). I saw a husband through Viet Nam and the Six-Day War before we were married. (Hate to have to say it, but he didn't know about the Six-Day War until his next leave.)

It's hard to be the one at home. It's even harder when the war is not a war and we don't agree it ever should have happened.

You may be made of the stuff that got wives through WWII. There was a real threat and enemy there - or maybe two. This might be apples and oranges.

I must agree with your husband, though. Making a difference in the grand scheme of things might be a reason for fighting. Not making any difference is a good reason to want to go home.

Caualties of O.I.L. (Operation Iraqi Liberation?) have not died in vain if we take heed of what led us to this "war." They have taught thinking Americans about complaicancy and driven us to take back our country.

I hope your husband comes home safe and, like so many others, refuses to fight again.

57. I love you guys!!!! Your words and well wishes
mean a lot. Reading them all has done much to heal my wounded soul.

You're all wonderful!

I haven't heard from my own husband but do know the platoon we sent in are all well. Unfortunately, as things are "heating" up in Karbala, we have sent in an additional platoon and half of another. That's half our company in Karbala now.

I'll let everyone know when my husband does finally get to call home. There's generally a lockdown after an incident and all calls are stopped for several days.

Thank you again!
