My buddy Paul found out his dad still had brain function when...

Paul's dad was suffering from Parkinson's. The doctors thought that surgery to implant an electrode in his skull might help. Unfortunately, the surgery failed catastrophically and Mr. Schultz is now paralyzed on his left side, able to vocalize but not to talk, and likely slated for nursing home care for the rest of his life. (Parenthetically, they just got the bill for his surgery and other hospital expenses: $153,000! Insurance is going to cover it, but still.)

Paul's mom was visiting his dad in his room and George W. Bush came on the television. She asked him who that was on the TV. He made his hand into the form of flipping the bird. Paul's dad is still in there.
