1. The Mothers, Filmore East Live 71
One of the only Zappa albums that's been in my collection regularly for years. Others have come and gone, but that one has been replaced twice when it's gone :)

Don't call us groupies, that is going too far,
(what kind of girl)
We wouldn't ball you just because you're a star.

These girls wouldn't let just anybody
Spew on their vital parts.
They want a guy
from a group
with a big hit single
ON THE CHARTS

Our new single just made the charts this week
With a bullet! With a bullet!
Just let me put a little more
Rancid Budweiser on my beard right now, Baby

And you can show me how a young girl such as you
Might be thrilled and overwhelmed by me...

What hotel did you say you are staying at?

Wanna split right away?

One of Zappa's most overlooked albums in my opinion.

5. I am in the Minority on This,
but "The Grand Wazoo" (released under "The Mothers," I believe) is probably my favorite. "Hot Rats" is also good.

FZ has a lot of unlistenable stuff. It's wise to ask for advice.

I one bought a recording called something like "Francesco Zappa: His First Digital Recording in Over 300 Years." It featured a dog wearing a dress and sunglasses on the cover. Apparently (I am guessing now) FZ had discovered a real historical composer named Francesco Zappa and these were his works. Straight unadulterated chamber music. No what I was expecting.

12. i'm partial to Hot Rats, 200 Motels and Joe's Garage.....
...as it happens you can get most of zappa's catalogue right now on www.emusic.com. there's a free trial period and then it's like $9.99 a month for 40 downloads. pretty nifty site if you ask me.

25. Uncle Meat, Chunga's Revenge, Hot Rats, One Size Fits All, Grand Wazoo
those titles lean towards the jazz/dada aspect of Zappa, what I like best. For "comedy music" Overnight Sensation and the 200 Motels soundtrack album are a gas.

Oh yeah, Rubin and the Jets was probably the the absolute end of doowop and maybe the best in the genre.

27. Is that a real poncho or a Sears poncho?
:-)

Frank was dissing media 'ho's way back with his FIRST album. I still remember "Trouble Coming Every Day," the song about the 1965 Watts riots:

And if another woman driver gets machine-gunned in her seat
We'll send some joker with a Brownie, to get it all complete.

29. Chunga's Revenge, Weasels Ripped My Flesh, Bongo Fury...
...One Size Fits All, Zoot Allures, Zappa In New York...those are just a few of the albums in which his guitar playing is really front-and-center. Volume One of "You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore" features a jaw-dropping live version of "The Torture Never Stops" with Adrian Belew on second guitar and what is probably the best drumming of Terry Bozzio's entire career.
