Why do I get pop-up boxes telling me how I can get rid of popup boxes?
Seriously - this is the most bizarre ad I've ever seen. It's not a popup ad from the browser but just a solo pop box say that for $50 I can get rid of annoying popup boxes like the one they just sent me.

And you wonder why I'm not bothered by telemarketers

Then I realized my firewall wasn't adjusted properly, but still....annoying as hell!!

6. disable the messenger
Edited on Sat Oct-18-03 05:24 PM by Kellanved
control panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services
find the "Messenger" service; select properties and select " disabled" from the drop-down menu.

That's assuming that you're using XP.

10. It's 2000 but I figured it out
I had fixed up this laptop and finally put it on my DSL line. But my firewall wasn't adjusted properly; however, I also looked into my admin tools and cleared that one out too.

Thanks for the reminder!!

:D

7. try google popup blocker
I have it and it works ovwe 95% of the time. Sometimes one of those boxes slip in, but it's rare and never so disturbing that I can;t get my work done.

8. nope
Although the Google bar is not a bad idea (spyware aside), these Pop-Ups are Windows-Messenger popups and not browser related.

Fortunately I saved these instructions - I later had problems with scumware and had to run Spybot to remove all the crap and that resets messenger. So I have these instructions handy to shut Messenger off. Those popups really ARE annoying.
