Rated #1. Poor Bill O'Lielly. He had a week at number #1 but that damn Al Franken and now Michael Moore are keeping him out of the top.

7 MADAM SECRETARY, by Madeleine Albright with Bill Woodward. (Miramax, $27.95.) A memoir by the former secretary of state and ambassador to the United Nations. (Lynne's Note - She worked for Clinton so we're happy to see her here)
8 THE GREAT UNRAVELING, by Paul Krugman. (Norton, $25.95.) A volume of essays, most from The New York Times, that are "mainly about economic disappointment, bad leadership and the lies of the powerful." (Lynne's Note: I'll be enjoying this book on my flight to New Orleans this week)
9 PERSECUTION, by David Limbaugh. (Regnery, $27.95.) The author of "Absolute Power" argues that "liberals are waging war against Christianity." (+) (Lynne's Note: Yes, Rush's brother is in the top #10. This book was out for a few months until it 'suddenly' started to sell. Those bulk sales are probably to help pay for his brother's rehab stint)
11 SHUT UP & SING, by Laura Ingraham. (Regnery, $27.95.) The political commentator attacks the "elites" of Hollywood, Washington and New York. (+) (Lynne's Note:Geez Laura, they at least kept Ann Coulter in the top #10 for a few months. They have already cut back on your bulk orders in only a few short weeks)
12 BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, by Walter Isaacson. (Simon & Schuster, $30.) A biography of the scientist, inventor, writer and Revolutionary statesman. (Lynne's Note - Ben was progressive in his time so we can claim this one too!)
19 STUPID WHITE MEN, by Michael Moore. (ReganBooks/HarperCollins, $24.95.) (Lynne's Note: He was barely in the top 35 last week. He must have gotten a boost with his other book. And this one has been out for like 70 weeks now)
20 LIVING HISTORY, by Hillary Rodham Clinton. (Simon & Schuster, $28.) (Lynne's Notes: Hillary is still hanging in there. She's been out longer than Annthrax book and not once have we seen the bulk order symbol next to Hillary's name. Class will always outsell crass)
23 REAGAN: A Life in Letters, edited by Kiron K. Skinner, Annelise Anderson and Martin Anderson. (Free Press, $35.) (Lynne's Notes: Didn't this book just come out? Obviously NO ONE cares about that decrepit horrible man that I hope is suffering great pains for dozens of more years)
29 THE LIES OF GEORGE W. BUSH, by David Corn. (Crown, $24.) (Lynne's Note: This book hasn't gotten much press but I may need to buy it to see what it's all about!!)
35 BIG LIES, by Joe Conason. (Thomas Dunne/St. Martin's, $24.95.)(Lynne's Note: Good to see Joe still selling, another book on my list of books to buy)

Sorry if I annoy some, but let's face it. Michael Moore is the polar opposite and equivalent of Rush Limbaugh. Both are windbags. Both are incredibly pompous. Both doctor facts and expect their fans to believe it all for truth. Whose truth? We all know about Rush's problems. We all know about (but many choose to ignore Michael's) problems.

Honest, open, factual debate is refreshing, entertaining, and informative. Bombastic overkill is simply mind-numbing.

Im just looking to have a little lively debate. Read my original post. I'm a fan of neither.

Let's start with the Columbine implication that MM got his rifle immediately upon opening the bank account. You can say directorial shorthand if you want, but I stand by my thought. Getting the rifle that way is just NOT possible in Michigan.

O.K. Let's move on th Rush's statement (made repeatedly) that "end users" of illegal drugs must be punished as well as the pushers. Is he voluntarily submitting to procedution and incarceration? I think not.

My entire point is simple. Hyperbole is not necessary when you have soild facts for any case. The use of ranting, bending the truth, and attack dog tactics only serve to distance many of those who might be swayed to your view.

41. I don't think Michael Moore is bombastic...

in the same sense that Rush is...though I can see where you would make that comparison. Maybe I am biased because I am more inclined to agree with Michael and rarely agree with Rush. Hard to be objective. Though I think their approach is different. I would appy bombast to Rush so much more than Michael. He is more like audacious. His approach and presentation are not all that similar to Rush's. I think it's more the agitation quota that is similar.

People that don't agree with either are going to get their shit stirred up, guess the methedology and how they got there is immaterial once the reaction kicks in? (ok that probably made no sense, sorry, articulateness is not in my stars tonight!!)

Even though I don't agree with Rush on very much, he is entertaining anyway.

But Michael Moore has a couple of things that Rush Limbaugh is lacking: Ethics, Compassion...there's no comparison here!!

I see what you mean. So far I've read Franken's book, The Best Democracy Money Can Buy: by Greg Palast (talk about depressing), and tonight I'm almost finished with Bushwacked by Molly Ivins. It's all informative and I have every intention of continuing as I feel I need to be better informed about all of this, but it surely is NOT happy reading.

Later tonight I'll get started on either Big Lies by Conason or Thieves in High Places by Hightower. Both guaranteed to make my blood boil, I'm sure.

It was on sale at Borders for 30 % off, so I got it for around $18.

Sadly, it's kinda thin. I may wait for the paperback (where he'll undoubtedly add more material, as will Franken), or buy it when I see him at Xavier University at the end of the month. Book signing afterward - I may get to meet and take a picture with him.

15. Possible squawk about bulk orders.

I'm wondering if we're ever going to see them try to advance an argument like "the reason they get shown as bulk orders are because book store owners are mostly liberals, and if someone buys two copies of a conservative book then they report it as a bulk order, and they ignore the bulk orders of liberal writers." :eyes:

(Just like Al Franken is trying to get people to use the phrase "kidding on the square", I am trying to do the same with "squawk". Basically, it's something parroted from right-wing propaganda, usually in an effort to dismiss any further discussion of an issue (as opposed to proving an alternate point). Two widespread squawks were "they counted the ballots twice already" and "economies are cyclical".)

Thus far, in the last 3 weeks, I've finished Al's book, and Scott ritter's "Frontier Justice". Just started "Big Lies" by Conason, ans then it's off to Molly's new one. Nice to have some good Fall reading material to cozy up with, next to the fire, with a hot toddy.

As a human, I feel sorry for Reagan's plight.

On the other hand, we all know what he and his buddies did. Let him suffer for a long, long time indeed; it'll pay back the pain America has been feeling ever since and won't stop until we get a non-centrist progressive back into the white house to sort things out. Or Dean, he's cool... (and, yes, I do feel uncomfortable in saying that about Reagan.)

32. Dying to Read 'Dude"

We have "Stupid White Men", loved it...Michael Moore is just a hoot. We also have Al Franken's new book, also loved it!
That list looks like a who's who of must reads (with the exception of a couple...namely Ann Coulter, Republican Crack Whore)

Joe Conason is another...Molly Ivins...David Corn....(good excerpt from the Nation from his book)...Madelein Albright (good article in a recent New Yorker about N.Korea)....Phew!!

Don't forget DU's very own William R. Pitt, whose book "The Greatest Sedition is Silence" should be right up there on the list, too!!
