Best music to drive to

So, I drove up from Austin to Temple and back today to visit with my parents. It was the most glorious day. Not a cloud to be found. Sky bright blue like a robin's egg. A perfect early fall day.

So I slipped on my shades and kicked it up to 70ish and popped the Indigo Girls into the cd player. It was great music to drive to - Get Out the Map may be the perfect song for leaving town and having the road under your feet. :-)

So, what do you guys think? What's your favorite music to drive to?

2. I wanted to live today...

:-) My parents fed me and we went to the Railroad Museum. It was neat.

I had to survive on the way back so I could find out how the Texas Tech football game ended. They almost came back from 4 touchdowns down. Ended up losing by 2 points. It was a GREAT game.

I've used Steppenwolf for road music before. About 3 years ago I took a Saturday and went to 3 different caves in the Texas Hill Country around Austin - Natural Bridge Caverns, The Cave With No Name, and Cascade Caverns. Just got in the car and cranked it. Was a totally different mood than the Indigo Girls from today, but still damn good drving music. :-)

The entire "Moontan" cd-- the whole thing is made of perfect cruising music. I especially enjoy the last song-- "Are You Receiving Me".

Earlier this year I rented a car to drive from Nashville to upstate NY, and of about a dozen CDs I brought with, Lucinda Williams' World Without Tears was by far the best road music.

PJ Harvey's Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea came in a distant second.

I love listening to Soundgarden while I drive. I don't have my license though, but I do have my permit and my dad doesn't mind it too much. But anyways, anything by Soundgarden is good. Especially if you have all their CDs (like I do), it'll last you a while :)

...listening to "Head Down" off of the superunknown album.

It's a pretty hypnotic song, ya know? It just made everything beautiful... the displays and dials in my car, the lines on the highway etc..

it put me in a real good mood... until i checked in to a real sh*t-hole of a motel with a giant picture window in the shower, sans curtains. but that's another story.

Jackson Browne, Cowboy Junkies, Kenny Wade Shepherd. I also keep Miles Davis and John Coltrane within reach.

The Mrs. and I do a lot of driving: her mom lives in Madison and her father in Sauk City. We still have family and friends in Milwaukee, and my grandfather near Rhinelander...so we do a lot of driving.

Besides, you have to drive a lot in the Chippewa valley to just go shopping or to get to work. It gets rural pretty quickly here.
