In 1974, Jon Landau said the above about Bruce Springsteen. Whose name would you fill the blank with today? Or is there no future to rock'n'roll?

If you don't feel au courant enough to answer either of the previous questions, do you think Bruce ever fulfilled the promise seen by Landau?

3. Y. Bhekhirst.

Go to incorrectmusic.com and click on the audio section. Then click on the show dated Sept. 26th, 2001. About halfway through, there is a song by a man named Y. Bhekhirst entitled "Hot in the Airport." Maybe, if we all squint really hard, and knock on fingers and cross our wood, the future of Rock and Roll will sound like this. At least, I'm screamin'! Check it out.

4. He did, but he's not considered trendy...

I like Bruce, though I don't listen to his music much these days, he has always had substance to his lyrics and is a brilliant musician. If I had to bank on any current fad artist, I couldn't tell ya. Bruce has longevity and integrity and he does sell out those large stadiums.

I don't know what the answer to that question is, but if you don't get 5 replies soon, I will never know!! Time for nighty night!!

7. I think Springsteen's music blows, since you asked....

I hate his music, agree with his politics. Landau is a putz who couldn't understand Jimi Hendrix when he first burst onto the scene. (Really! He panned "Are You Experienced?" in Rolling Stone! Read any of Lester Bangs or Richard Meltzer's writing about Jon Landau and you will agree, this man was nobody's idea of a tastemaker.....)

9. I think Sleater-Kinney, and I've only heard one song

Rock 'n' roll doesn't have that great a future, but doesn't look to be dying soon. Springsteen never anywhere near fulfilled his promise, but that doesn't mean he wasn't/isn't great.

RKZ, I seem to remember seeing Landau's name after a Produced by credit on at least one Springsteen album (Born In The USA, I think). One infers that he was more of a r 'n' r social climber than a critic at his best. Nice turn of phrase in at least the one instance, though.

13. Every week

I see the future of rock and roll. Every week I go to a local club and see kick ass bands that will blow you away given the chance. Just tonight I saw The Bleeder Resistor from DC, The Hypodermix from TN and a couple local bands and they all kicked motherfucking ass. Next week I'm heading out of town to see even more great bands like The Homeowners, The Screws, Jimmy and The Teasers and a couple other bands. I can't wait. Rock and Roll will never die.

17. Mike Keneally and/or Stuart Davis

Mike Keneally is the former "stunt guitarist" for Frank Zappa (also played with Steve Vai, and is rumored to be doing some jamming with a reformed XTC). He's an amazing singer/songwriter/composer (just finished recording an orchestral album), and a lovely gentleman.

Stuart Davis is the original post-apocalyptic punk monk. Kind of a folk/rock/fingerpicking hybrid, his lyrics about sex, death, philosophy, religion and various combinations are some of the best I've ever heard. All wrapped up in a sweet 3-minute pop song format. Also a hell of a nice guy.

18. Meshuggah

ok... probably not. But the world would be a better place if rock n roll became that technically sophisticated. Poly-rhythmic micro-technical songs played on custom made specially designed instruments. When your lead guitarist improvises a guitar solo that is a freaking twelve tone row at their live concert - ah... I was in heaven.
