what govt. agency deals with consumer credit issues?

My mom has some weirdness around her credit rating. the bank and the credit agency both believe each other, which is collusion in my opinion, and I would like another avenue to help her out.

any thoughts on where to start?

1. I've been through this before
All they want to do is send you "information," if that. I hate to discourage you but you're probably wasting your time asking our government (in its current form) to do anything.

Please, somebody tell me I'm wrong. I'd love to hear stories of anyone getting assistance in resolving a credit issue.

2. Go to the State Attorney General's office
They deal with anyone doing unsavory business practices in one's state.
