With a little more than three minutes remaining in the frame, Danny Kanell came on to play quarterback as Beuerlein(9-19, 0 TD, 3 INT) was knocked out of the game with a dislocated finger on his right hand.
FOURTH QUARTER
Kanell proceeded to move his team downfield for Elam's second field goal of the game. The 46-yard kick cut the score to 28-13 with 14:17 left in the game that ended a 10-play, 50-yard drive that lasted 4:14. The Broncos had advanced as far as Minnesota's 14-yard line but Smith hurt his club by taking a 15-yard taunting penalty which pushed them back to the 29.
With 6:45 left to go, the Broncos scored their second touchdown of the game when Mike Anderson caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Kanell. Elam's extra point made the score 28-20 as Kanell led his team on a 12-play, 61-yard drive that lasted 4:38. The scoring pass was the first for Kanell since the 2000 season when he was with the Atlanta Falcons. During the action left tackle Ephraim Salaam left the game with a knee injury and was replaced in the lineup by Blake Brockermeyer.
After stopping Minnesota on its next possession, Denver had one more attempt to tie the game. With 3:24 left the Broncos took over and started their drive from their own 33-yard line. In four plays the team had advanced to the Vikings 30-yard line, still with 1:30 showing on the game clock, but the team would advance no further as it was stopped on 4th-and-10 when Kanell's pass to Portis fell incomplete.
http://www.denverbroncos.com/page.php?id=341&contentID=1030Beuerlein has been horrible(2 TD, 5 INT) for the Broncos in the last two weeks and Kanell almost orchrestrated a 15 point 4th quarter comeback. I say start him against Baltimore, hopefully their D will pull off a win against New England then they have a bye week then Plummmer should be ready to go against San Diego.
