Help! Elephants are dancing on my roof!

Well, not really, but it SOUNDS like they are because I'm having my house re-roofed! My cats are confused! The plus side (besides a water-tight roof) is I get to stay home from work for two days. Woo-hoo!

Oddly enough we are also having a new roof put on the house (starting today). Just hoping the weather is not too severe.

The weather is great--running about 20 degrees above normal for Minnesota.

3. Just had ours done

and I wish I'd gotten to you before you started.
The old roof was 20-25 "year" shingles, and that number doesn't seem to mean how long they actually last. Our original roof was about 13 years old.

The roofer recommended the 30 year "architectural" shingles. Said they'd last a lot longer than the 25s. I did some research at Lowes and found out they make a 40 AND a 50. The 50s were $1 per bundle more than the 30s. Guaranteed for much longer and for wind speeds up to 90mph (we live in a hurricane prone area). The 30s were only good for 70mph.

At 200 bundles it cost me an extra $200 for a more or less lifetime roof.
Also, if you don't have ridge vents they're pretty easy and cheap to install with a new roof.
