1. How the f**k did the Great Gatsby not make the top 21?
Too "American" for their tastes???

9. Maybe because it's just a potboiler written by a little shopgirl...
with her nose pressed up against leaded-glass windows?

Fitzgerald-the great could have been (who never was)

4. not there
And it's not the only great novel missing from the top 100 list (let alone the top 21).
How Potter could get on the list is beyond me ...

8. You got me too
That book is so great. I didnt care that Paul and the others were my nation's "enemy". I admit I wanted to weep when Kat died, I really liked the guy, a great leader.

3. I voted for 1984
in the top 21 list. Animal Farm was much better, but alas it didn't make the cut.

5. Not surprising really
Hey, this is a poll about books for people who spend their lives watching too much television. It's just another crappy, spuriously-intellectual cheap television idea. I don't watch television but others in the family do and whenever I catch sight of it I'm astonished at the amount of dumb, cheap garbage is spewing out of it. This is just another poor attempt to give television some air of 'quality' by associating with a real art - literature.
Sorry, end of rant.

6. Too bad it's so easily freeped
I'd like to see the real results of a real poll on this subject, either British or American.

7. No, not BEST...
"Best Loved" book. There's a difference.
