I used to frequent that site a lot(I even used to post and get into dialogues with the libertarian-leaning among them).

However, the constant bigotry(especially against immigrants, gays, and Muslims) became too intolerable. Constantly reading epithets like 'wetback', 'towel head', and 'fags'('surprisingly' un-deleted by the mods) on some of their threads stank the whole place up.(just read any immigration or Mexican thread. Don't be surprised to see many deleted posts__even scoundrels have standards!)

I still lurk back there. I want to see how the reactionaries are thinking(sadly, a very numerous bunch among our country's population).

But reading Jim Robinson's state of the 'Free Republic'(i'm sure some here have already linked to it) makes me less inclined to lurk over there. It's scary that reactionaries like Mr. Robinson appear to have a substantial audience of devotees.

I never really understand when DU members talk about going over there and getting banned. We want to keep freepers out of our space, let them have their creepy little corner of the web to themselves.
