It's official - Wettest day EVER in Seattle!
(Well, at least since they've been keeping records, sometime in the 40's.)

4 1/2 inches and IT'S STILL RAINING. :wow:

As of 8 p.m., Seattle had received 4.45 inches of rain since midnight, already breaking the city's one-day rainfall record of 3.41 inches set Nov. 20, 1959 and it was still raining. It also broke the record for rain over any 24-hour period.

Other areas along the Kitsap Peninsula and Hood Canal received nearly 6" of rain.

1. Hold on there's three days more of it coming.
Hope my septic system doesn't back up. Drains are draining a bit slowly at my house.

9. Yar, windy too
Another window-pane rattler, she be.

I got insta-soaked too, on my way to work, so I was wet and uncomfortable all day. x( I have my doubts whether even Saran wrap could've helped today. Glad to see you didn't float away! :hi:

5. Send it south will you.
Everything is dried up here and I'm tired of watering my drought tolerant plants that are dying.

7. Actually
we're quite happy to see it return - we had quite the dry spell this year. It's just that we didn't expect it to come back in such a torrent!

10. We had 60 consecutive days (or thereabouts)
Edited on Mon Oct-20-03 11:19 PM by jono
of 70+ degree temperatures come to an end recently. Come to think of it, they may not all have been completely dry, but hey - that was one hell of a good streak of weather for Seattle. Two solid months of room temperature - yeah! :)

11. I've never been to Seattle, but...
It sure looks pretty on TV.

BTW, do you know the Frugal Gourmet? I used to like his tv show. Too bad he turned out to be a "prevert." :)

but I never watched his show. I was more of a Bob Ross kind of guy. Happy little trees.

15. It was awful for those of us without air conditioning
It's so humid here, that 80 degrees is worse than 95 degree desert heat. This past summer I swore I would never complain about cold or rain again.

13. It was a wet one today, wasn't it?
Phew! It was pouring!

Oh well, if it keeps the Californians and their strange political shenanigans out of the Northwest, so much the better.

16. 167 must have been unbearable...
...since it's pretty jammed during rush hour even in good weather.

21. Actually 167-S wasn't that bad yesterday.
I maintained a steady 35mph from Emerald Downs all the way to the 512 interchange. I guess a lot of people had stayed home because of the rain. Also, people entered traffic going slower than usual. This probably cut down on the 'rubber band' effect that heavy traffic often exhibits.

Guess there's a bright side to everything, huh?

Y'all stay dry today.

14. Some of the streets in the Puyallup valley were turning into rivers...
...by 4 pm. Fortunately, I live on South Hill, but it did cause me to cancel my plans to visit friends in Tukwila. I just looked outside, and it's still coming down as hard as it has all day.

17. My poor husband was working outside all day
replacing windows. His client actually sent him home about 2:30 because he looked so drowned. It's a good thing it wasn't cold, too.

20. I've been to Seattle twice...
...and I lucked out both times. I never got to see any of this famous Seattle rain. I wanted to thought just to get a feel for what the city is like during the rainy season.

22. It's not usually like this
I was talking yesterday with a woman who is originally from Arizona. She said that before she moved to Seattle, she thought it rained like that all the time. Now she knows that when it rains here, it's usually just a little drizzle (it's rare to get more than 1/4 inch of rain in a day). But if it rains that heavily in other parts of the country, and the perception is that it rains like that all the time here, I can see why people might have an unfavorable view (albeit somewhat incorrectly) of Seattle weather.

Where I live, we can get that much in a couple hours.

25. Not here.
We actually get less rain in a year than most major metropolitan areas in the U.S. - it's just that we have one of the highest number of days per year with precipitation. Basically, it drizzles a tiny bit most every day of the year. :)

26. Bizarre.
It was dry and hot three hours south in Portland. 77 degrees on October 20th is a bit bizarro world.
