Poll question: How fit is DU?
Upon my latest viewing of a scale, the crushing reality has set in; I have to get off my arse and do something about my weight (which isn't SO bad, but considering I used to be a size 1 it is certainly alarming). I am entirely too scatterbrained to stick to a diet, and thus, exercise it is. How ya'll doin' in the *battle of the bulge*?

I spent at least 3 hours on some physical activity everyday.

My weight tends to fluctuate quite a bit with the way my life is going.

I don't do any extra excercise after my volunteer work. I guess it counts, but I'm still fat.

Unfortunately it's between the refrigerator and the couch.

Just kidding! The real unfortunately is that I get to the gym only once a week.

12. Don't let that lull you into a false sense of security.
I was too until I hit 40. I weighed 140 for years. Last year I was closer to 180. Fortunately, this year I'm closer to 165. (The tape worm diet works!)

I've no intention of discussing my health-related traumas in a public forum with folks who barely know me, you'll just have to trust my assurances that overweight is never going to be one of my problems.

But not to worry, there are so many others from which to chose! ;-)

I run, and have done charity marathons. I hike, I rock and mountain climb and have scaled some dangerous and impressive peaks.

To my thinking, being physically active is and should be more than just a matter of 'losing weight.' I don't engage in physical activity in the hopes of altering my size, I do so because there's something to be gained from it.

I'm usually successful but then there are weeks like last week - working 16 hour days leaves no time for exercise.

and I have to go down and then up a hill, so I classify that as strenous exercise.

I shoot for at least 40 minutes combined 5 or 6 times a week.

Either outside, or on days like yesterday (5+ inches of rain) I use the treadmill in my building. It helps me with the pain of fibromyalgia, plus I admit, I'm addicted to the endorphin rush. ;-)

13. Try to walk every day
for at least 30-45 minutes. If I can't get out to walk (i.e. the weather's bad), doing some very energetic household chores suffices too.

Exercising and low carb the past year have worked wonders. I'm now down in the middle of my height/weight range. I plan to stay there and below from now on!

I worked very hard. It was my 40th birthday present to myself. LOL!

I hope SPB's interview goes well. :thumbsup: I saw him mention it on another thread. I had one yesterday and am waiting to hear feedback.

One of my fav places to walk is the Sara Duke Gardens. It's pretty, lush, and well manicured. Plus all the cute college guy eye candy certainly helps! ;-)

with the interview folks in just a few minutes...you shoulda seen him all dressed up in his "big boy clothes". :D

I think we're supposed to do the Duke Gardens thing this weekend; over the last couple weeks we've been to the Life and Science Museum (I think that's what it's called) in Durham and the zoo in Ashboro-ville-wtfever ( :P ) so I've done PLENTY of walking. (That's actually what prompted the looking at the scale thing. :() Remember the day last week when it started raining like mad at like 11 AM and didn't stop all day? That was like the INSTANT we pulled into the zoo parking lot. :eyes:

So you've been seeing the sights?

I've been to the Zoo few times. And I always get confused about who's on exhibit for whom? The way that park is arranged, I get the distinct feeling that we humans are the arranged entertainment for the animals. :P LOL! Which is a good thing.

Yes, I was feeling down that day. The rain didn't help one bit. x(

You'll ove Duke Gardens! If you do the complete lap around, it's about 1 mile.

24. The best thing about the zoo
was the gorillas...due to the rain they were all kinda hanging out in the shelter of the boulders and stuff, which happens to be where the ground-level viewing area is...they were AWESOME to see up close!

Oh yeah, except for the one who was catching and then eating his own poo...

20. Lifelong gym rat here
5 days a week in the gym, pumping iron and running on the hamster-wheel, and we try to do something active on the two 'off' days. Been thinking that's not enough, and I want to start working out in the morning too. I'm not in impeccable health, but not bad for my age. :D
