Poll question: Best Action Movie of All Time?
Raiders, for my money, is the best action movie of all time.

27. I'll buy that . . .
this movie had the greatest cast of comedians ever assembled anywhere, anytime . . . action movies don't have to be shoot-em-up blow-em-up affairs . . . in fact, those are the kinds of flicks I tend to avoid . . . M4 World, on the other hand, was a sheet joy to watch, from start to finish . . . got my vote! . . .

29. And the plane flying through the billboard was a legit action stunt...
...a REAL billboard, baby! That would fit in with any modern action flick, except they'd probably fake it up with CG.

4. ah!!! How could I forget LOTR???
I guess because its an epic or something.

Fight Club I considered but dismissed as social commentary. Action? Yes, but with a much largerm point. Blade Runner, definitely.

Edited on Wed Oct-22-03 06:02 PM by DCDemo
They are pretty sweet..not the best, but very well done.

On edit: Doh- forgot my personal favorite. Lawrence of Arabia. The action scenes are what Star Wars and LOTR were building on.

Predator is on right now on FX.

Gov. Gropenator, Gov. Body, Apollo Creed, Billy Bear, and Bill Duke.

What a cast.

14. New Wave Hookers III and Let Me Tell Ya About Black Chicks were better
Besides exhibiting subtle use of more sophisticated character development and rhetorical devices interwoven into dialog, it was the painstaking detail shown to costume design that really left an impression on me.

All of that, and action, action, action.

19. But I still think Dark's masterwork was "Snakepit"
The pre-scene interviews where he asked the girls about mortality were just so innovative and...wrong. And that's why it's so good.

That was pretty fucking (pardon the pun) daring for the time, and even today.

11. I tried to watch that movie *twice*, and fell asleep both times...
I do not "get" CTHD.

And let me say that I typically like foreign films, have no problems with subtitles, and like a little out of the ordinary style in my movies.

16. Raiders
I think is the best action film to date. It was the first to incorporate all the old B movie serial tricks into one film.

And Wow! Who has done more than Harrison Ford to make the bullwhip a hip fashion accessory?

18. Aliens
my favorite of the four movies, and the one that most deserves consideration as an "action" classic (the first one's horror, the third one's a drama, and the fourth one's sf).

But of the list you posted, I'll go with Raiders as well. It was so much fun when it first came out!

I haven't seen. Very well done.

I liked Kyle as hero better than terminator as hero. I also thought Sarah Connor had a better arc in the original.

32. It's usually a great bad guy that makes a good action movie.
I think that's why Die hard is good. Alan Rickman is perfect.

Under Seige (Steven Seagal) is good because of Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey.

Also for your consideration:

Enemy of the State.
Rob Roy (Tim Roth is incredible)
Robin Hood (Erroll Flynn)
Captain Blood
Narrow Margin (Gene Hackman)

And in the comedy/action vein:
The Great Race- Peter Falk and Jack Lemmon are fantastic. Great sword fights, and "Pardon me, Mr. Pardner, whooo is this Texas Jack?" LOL!

But in the end, my vote goes to The Matrix.
