by the power vested in me by the Alan Colmes Appreciation Society...
well I just about recovered from my hideous flu.
I was literally feverish/delusional for a couple of
days, amusingly out of my skull when I wasn't coughing
and sneezing like a moron. Sickest I've been since
last winter...
What passed the time was (resemi)discovering the work
of Jean Shepherd.
Which will prompt a "who?"
and then a "Oh! Him!"
Writer/radio guy. Wrote "A Christmas Story". Was the
improvising voice on that Mingus "The Clown" LP.
most entertainingly, he had a late night slot on NYC
radio from the late 50s to 70s, and it was FUCKING
GENIUS. Talk about a revelation. Tons of mp3s are
online and floating around, and his voice and
hysterical storytelling had me literally hypnotized
many nights in a row. Incredible, incredible stuff.
Ended up in NJ, called it "the most American of
states" and sung its sour praises in a very
entertaining manner.
Perkowitz says seventeen thumbs up! Boy could that guy
talk. And talk. And talk. And TALK TALK TALK. One
voice, one microphone, directly into your brain.
Kaaza up some of that Shep and listen in bed before
falling asleep.
man, i love stumbling on a whole new treasure trove of
stuff to obsess over and enjoy. Especially when its
free!
Jean Shepherd I tell you! Genius! GEEEEEENIUS! East Village late 50s hipster with Indiana twang...
