http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2003/news/story?id=1644499

Wahhhhh!Wahhhhh! But no one cares about the World Series! Wahhhh!

Like I said, there is some very good baseball going on in this series. Those petutlant few who choose not to watch just because the cursed teams didnt make it are missing out.

1. I have nothing against baseball
but I don't like to watch teams I don't like, I am not going to waste my time watching a Cowboys vs Giants game even though it could be a great game. But I am not organizing a boycott because that doesn't make since, the team that wins 7 games in their NL/AL League playoffs deserves to be in the world series.

So it's the second lowest-rated Series ever. Next to last years.

3. I thought the Angels and Giants
World Series raked in high ratings. I thought the lowest rated was the most broing World Series ever, NY vs NY. Wow two teams from the same city!

6. Yes I believe the "Subway series" had the lowest rating
Shocked Shocked I tell you that the country wouldn't tune into a series like that.

I haveno numbers to back that up but I believe last years did okay (better thatn the NY vs. NY) but still it is not like in the past.

10. It wasn't helped by the Mets performance, either.
A seven game series is always going to have higher averages than a four or five game series.

11. here...
Through two games, the Series ratings have been only 9 percent higher than last year's Giants-Angels first two games: 11.7 compared with 10.7. Let's not forget that last year's Series was the lowest-rated of all time.

12. Any real numbers?
I tend not to believe everything I read from a colomnist but I thought the Subway Series was the lowest rated series but I could be wrong but I would like to know.

13. You still haven't shown me.
Edited on Thu Oct-23-03 08:59 AM by HuckleB
Last year's ratings were down, but I don't find anything saying they were the lowest ratings ever. (Remember, they were down compared to the year before that, when we had an east coast and a west coast team, with some incredibly dramatic games.) Further, even if last year's ratings were the lowest, that doesn't mean that this year's series is automatically the second lowest of all time. Again, I ask you to actually show me.

See you later.

14. ok, here
This year's game one drew a 10.9 rating, with each rating point equal to 1.084 million homes with television sets. Last year's game one between the Anaheim Angels and the San Francisco Giants drew a 9.4. That Fall Classic ended up being the lowest-rated World Series ever.

15. Surprising
I thought that was a popular world series. After all it went to 7 games and the Angels were a team that played with alot of heart and you had a home run champion in the mix.

16. yeah but
Nobody cares.

Baseball is a dying sport. It's been dying for years now. The only way the World Series would have been generating any buzz or excitement is if the Cubs and Yankees had been in the series.

And just because the games are good doesn't mean people are gonna watch. I'm a sports fan, but even I could care less who wins if it's not MY team.

I didn't care who won last year's series. I don't care who wins this one. When the Mets are there, I'll pull for them, but otherwise, who cares?

Is basketball here yet?

18. Wrong.
Baseball is not a dying sport. Its overall attendance picture looks very good, with studied projections showing a clear likely increase. Even the Angels-Giants World Series got better ratings than the NBA finals. Are you saying that basketball is a dying sport? There is an ebb and a flow to the popularity of every entertainment. Baseball will never get the TV ratings that football offers, for many reasons. It doesn't translate to the tube as well, and it doesn't offer as many chances for advertisers. But baseball does offer an incredibly intense and compelling experience live. And for nearly 70 million paying customers a year (for MLB alone), it is not dying in any way, shape, or form.

20. Football does not get more viewers
just because it offers many chances for advertisers. People actually like watching football, surprising isn't it? Yes Basketball is a dying sport, it is not nearly as popular as it used to be and I can't figure out why, maybe because Magic, MJ, Bird, and the others are no longer around.

21. Yes, many people enjoy it.
However, the power of marketing is strong, and television and advertisers know full well where to put their marketing dollars for the long haul. Football's popularity is not simply based on people enjoying the sport, it is also largely based on how well it has been marketed to the public. And it has been marketed very well, very hard, and with very good reason. It does possess the most opportunities for advertising, while actually taking up the least amount of air time for actual play. (This despite the fact that advertising has pushed NFL games to 3 1/2 and even 4 hours more and more regularly.)

5. Regardless...
those who watched last night's game were treated to a classic. A great and wonderful ballgame of epic proportions. I'm glad I watched, as I do every year, regardless of the teams involved. I love baseball, and the World Series always offers some great baseball.
