I saw Simon & Garfunkel last night.

Saw them in Columbus with my father. Damn, man. What a show. Even at 62, they can still put on a good show.

And the Everly Brothers were there, too. They were great. And then they all sang Bye Bye Love together.

Even though they were backed by a 7 piece band, the best moments were when they sang their gentle, acoustic ballads like Kathy's Song, Sound of Silence, and Scarborough Fair.

Even though the bulk of the audience were baby boomers and War Babies (like my dad) there was a large quantity of the younger generation there (like me) appreciating it as much as anyone else. It's really cool that S&G's music can still inspire people decades after they've broken up.

Worth every penny, IMO.

2. Right.. The place was packed.

A lot of people would have been late had the show started on time. But it was about 20 minutes late. Even though I love S&G and the show was great, I think it's disgraceful when a performance starts late. It seems unprofessional.

really. I hope they plan on coming to Germany!!

4. There are some groups whose music aged really well

and I think S&G are one of those groups. A lot of good groups from the mid-sixties sound dated, but the folk stuff S&G did still sounds fresh. I guess that is because Paul Simon is really one of the best popular songwriters of all time. I put him right up there with Lennon/McCartney, Dylan, Randy Newman, etc.

5. Saw them when they last toured in '83

and enjoyed it tremendously. At that time, they were putting out a new record and had some "new" stuff to perform. Alas, they fought, and the "new" S&G album became "Hearts and Bones" by Simon alone.

Did they have any new material? The old stuff is wonderful, but sometimes it gets sad when aging musicians have nothing left but the oldies-but-goodies to rely on.
