Best Republican Political Scandal?
I'm not up on my history, so I'm not making this a poll. Actually, I hope that I'm informed by my fellow DUers.

1. Well...
Watergate actually got the bastard bounced. I don't think too many scandals have accomplished that.

2. Selection of Agnew to run for Vice President
It was stupid and showed the Republicans didn't do any research. Of course this really pales to Watergate.

3. Teapot Dome - Warren G. Harding

Edit - although this scandal is primarily associated with Harding's Sec. of Interior, the Democrats were never really able to exercise any political gain from it. For instance, the 1924 and 1928 elections were won by Republicans. Of course, that led to the Great Depression...

5. Bob Packwood/Clarence Thomas
I'll also put in the Watergate disclaimer, since nothing rivals that scandal, but the sexual harassment scandals of both Thomas and Packwood, ocurring in close proximity brought a new awareness of the problem. It started the ball rolling on bringing the issue to the front. Though only one got what he deserved.

6. Watergate...
The MOTHER of all political scandals--for its depth, breadth, and large-scale endangerment of our freedoms, in addition to the astonishing level of its corruption of government officials.

And for the single summation by Richard Nixon of all his lies into two sentences:

"People have a right to know whether or not their president is a crook. Well, I'm not a crook!" :7

(And the reason so many scandals since then have taken on the suffix "-gate"!) :eyes:

B-)

7. President Grant??
blamed for Credit Mobilier scandal, and often considered with Harding as one of the worst presidents.

Though according to the following, he really wasn't so bad:
