Poll question: Should I bury the hatchet with my Liberal neighbors?
Edited on Thu Oct-23-03 02:30 PM by XNASA
Two years ago, when we moved into our new neighborhood, our neighbors down the block were thoughful enough to stop by and introduce themselves. They came bearing a pan of fresh-baked brownies.

Then it all went downhill.

A few months later, the wife (let's call her Pam) came by and hysterically accused our then 14 year old son of stealing her 4 year old's inflatable ball. Turned out, it was just wedged under a car in our driveway and that it was her son that put it there.

Then.......the husband (let's call him Carl) lost his job, and literally hounded my wife for an interview with her boss, who is the CEO of a rather large local company. Mind you there there were no openings for any kind of position that Carl was qualified for, but he remained persistant and really put my wife on the spot.

Then.......Pam filed charges against our older son's schoolmate for alledgedly exposing himself while waiting for the schoolbus. Our son got dragged into testifying, even though he claimed he saw nothing. There were at least a dozen other kids at the bus stop who had the same story. Our son's schoolmate was found guilty. The whole episode had Mrs. XNASA in a tizzy for months.

Here's the kicker.....during the Invasion of Iraq, Pam and Carl had a giant "NO WAR" poster in their front window that matched the poster we had in ours. Then, this morning as I was driving to the train station, Carl was in front of me and his car was sporting a "DEAN for PRESIDENT" bumper sticker.

So what should I do? Should I try to re-establish communications with these people? Or should I just accept that fact that some Liberals are crazy too and just leave it at that?

4. Luckily, they don't live right next door....
So they're easy to ignore, if we have to.

You know, I just had my hatchet sharpened not too long ago. Quit giving me ideas.

:hi:

2. Stay away...
Or the next time it might be YOUR son accused of something even more than wedging a ball under the car.

3. Um, I would keep my distance.
I wouldn't be unfriendly, but I wouldn't go baking cookies for them either. Simple politeness.

Glad they're on the the liberal side, but sheesh, what freaks. :D

5. Just because they are liberals doesn't mean they aren't freaks

Hard to say. It would probably be the nice thing to do but given the history it may be very hard to do.

How about a compromise, wedge a hatchet under their car.

7. Stay the hell away from those people...
...although we like to think all of the weirdos belong on the other side of the political spectrum, it just ain't so.

Dumbass knows no boundaries, creeds, political persuasions, or intelligence levels.

Run away. Run away screaming.

That family sounds like bad news on a stick.

10. Because the two adults who testified.....
Pam and her friend who just happened to be there, were more believable than a bunch of HS students I guess. It wasn't a jury trial, it was in Juvie. So they only had to convince the judge.

That, and the kid who was accused had a prior record. Things like that don't matter in civil court, but they do take those things into consideration in Juvie.

12. Liberals can be weirdos, and conservatives can be nice people
My advice is always to avoid the weirdos and seek out the nice folks, regardless of political persuasions.

Stay clear of them and especially keep your teenager away from them. It sounds like she's got some kind of weird thing against teens.

22. I'd stay away
just because you share the same view on politics doesn't mean you share the same view on other things and being liberal doesn't automatically make someone a nice person.
