Paul Revere Dick. He had it legally changed to omit the surname and use Revere.

Many of the original band members were from Idaho--that's where they got started.

I used to have a major crush on Charlie Coe. I was 12. Then I had a crush on Mark Lindsay. I still kinda do. He and his wife, Deborah, live in Hawaii now. They're big cat lovers. Mark still performs sometimes. I saw Mark in 1971 in a concert. I saw the Raiders (without Mark) many years later at a Fair.

They even had their own show in the summer of 1968. It didn't last very long, but it was a daytime variety show. They used to invite new bands on each episode, and have the audience pick which one sounded the best, and they would give out prizes, like recording contracts. When Mark quit to go on his own, he worked for awhile with Columbis records as a new artist rep. Mark hasn't aged a whole heckuva lot. Perhaps he's actually thinner, though. He's just turned 61.

I still have many of their albums on vinyl. I'm going to have to hook up the turntable to the computer and churn out some disks to save them.

BTW, thank god some people still remembers them. I have spent twenty + years asking if people knew who I was talking about, and there weren't a lot of them.

10. Now that you made me reminisce

On the "Smother Brothers Comedy Hour" there was a band in '68, I think, that did the song "One Tin Soldier: Legend of Billy Jack".

I was 16 then and remember the impact of the anti-war song when at the end, they had 4 "tin soldiers" on stage. They each took their turn and fired their rifles at a drum roll.....The 4th one threw his arm to the stage, refusing to fire.

I know this is off-topic, but I had a flashback and it was of the same era.

15. Props to a VERY competent band!

PR&TR were some good musicians under all the gimmicks. And with the help of Terry Melcher, they made some PERFECT records back in the day. Check out "Him Or Me" and "The Great Airplane Strike of 1966." Their shit rocked.

16. Neat bit o' trivia...

Paul Revere & The Raiders recorded "Louie Louie" at about the same time as The Kingsmen in 1963. It was The Kingsmen's version that cracked the Top 40, maybe because of all the rumors about the lyrics in their version...

My fave Raiders song is probably "Just Like Me." That sucker truly rocked, with a nice Kinks-like rhythm.

<edit>Wasn't their TV show called "Action" or something similar? I remember the theme song, "Where The Action Is."

19. Poor Terry

He amd Mark Lindsay were best buddies. Did you know about Terry Melcher's link to Charlie Manson and Sharon Tate?

The house where Tate and those who were murdered by Manson was where Terry had been living prior to Tate and Polanski. Melcher had turned down Manson on a recording contract or some other deal, and when the Manson gang headed out to the houses all drunk and high, supposedly Manson's intent was to get back at Terry.

And don't forget that Terry is/was Doris Day's son.
