THE VATICAN LIES: SAYS CONDOMS DON'T STOP HIV ACT UP TO PROTEST AT THE VATICAN MISSION TO THE U.N.

Weds, October 29th at noon
Join ACT UP/NY at the Vatican mission to the U.N. to protest statements made by Vatican cardinal Cardinal Alfonso Lopez Trujillo that condoms cannot protect against HIV. Speaking to the BBC, Cardinal Trujillo said, "The AIDS virus is roughly 450 times smaller than the spermatozoon. The spermatozoon can easily pass through the 'net' that is formed by the condom."
When confronted with scientific research showing that intact condoms are an effective barrier against sexually transmitted diseases, Lopez Trujillo said: "They are wrong about that; this is an easily recognizable fact," according to the BBC. The Vatican has instructed priests and nuns around the world to spread the lie that condoms cannot prevent HIV transmission. Since many people around the world look to the Catholic Church for information on such matters, the numbers of deaths from AIDS this action will lead to is unconscionable.
ACT UP will counter the Vatican spokesperson with Condom spokespersons - 6 foot tall condoms will visit the Vatican mission to the U.N. and tell the truth: that when used correctly, condoms are 99% effective in preventing HIV transmission.
Join ACT UP and stop the Vatican's lies:
