Wondering how you cope; get re-directed. Thanks.

1. Only with food...
... does that count?

I can be on a 1200 calorie a day diet for weeks at a time then snarf down a Big Mac and a large pizza in one night.

I just pick myself up the next day and start over.

3. yeah I hear that
Seems I'm always dieting. I gave up the heavy drinking almost 20 years ago now. Occasionally, but only occasionally I have a beer or a glass of wine. I've found that I don't really care much for booze anymore. I think if you are away from something long enough and you try it again it often isn't nearly as fun/good as you once remembered it as being. That certainly is the case with alcohol and tobacco in my case.

Food - that's a whole other story unfortunately! :)

2. It's easy to get redirected...
...No matter what the problem. Just persistantly exercise your choice. If you have an instance of bad judgement, don't let it slide, and don't think "I'll get back on again tomorrow." At the instant you realize what you're doing, that's when you stop. It may seem easy to justify finishing out the night, but it's important to cultivate your will and take control of your life.

Don't spend a lot of time beating yourself up over mistakes, just pick yourself up and move on, and make an earnest effort to maintain control in the future.

Like Sartre said, man is free at the moment he chooses to be.

4. only 2nd hand
meetings are the answer for many people. You can get a chip for one day sober.

One day at a time and don't beat yourself up.

5. Write out everything you are feeling and thinking......
right now. And laminate it. And start all over again tomorrow. And promise yourself that should you decide to fall of the wagon again, you will read your laminated recollections.

You apparently were able to subvert your remorse before you took the that first ______ (drink?). Set yourself up to remember no matter what how you feel about the addiction.

best of luck. You sound like you are really unhappy about this. And that's a good 1st defense for the future.

chin up!!
