HA! HA!! Yankees Lose! Dynasty is over!!!
My congratulations go out to the Florida Marlins. They have clearly earned their world championship.

But even better than that, and better for all of the baseball world, is watching the collapse of the Yankee dynasty. The Yankees: with their entitlement mentality, their belief that success can be bought and paid for, a national press corps that fawns all over them, their obnoxious fans and their truly evil owner have been dethroned. I see the Yankees as headed for turmoil in the years ahead. They are clearly on their last legs as a team.

Freedom and democracy have been restored to baseball.

The evil empire is dead. The Marlins are the champions.

3. Collapse of the Yankees dynasty?
I hate the Yankees, but really... they made the World Series AGAIN. They have won their division how many years in a row?

I'm sorry, but his is partly why I like football much more: At the beginning of the season, anyone may end up in the Super Bowl. Right now every division in the league has a different leader than last year. I like that.

Joe Torre was gracious in congratulating the Marlins, as I was in another thread, while you had to show your unsportsmanship and immaturity.

Shame on you!

44. Isn't this the same Florida franchise
that BOUGHT its first world championship with a huge payroll, then promptly sold off all its talent?

Word up: It takes talent to win consistently, and talent means money on the payroll. Not just NYY, but ANY team. Wonder why the Reds always choke in the stretch? ALWAYS? Because they're cheap.

I really don't "get" all the Yankee hatred here, except for some of the Boston fans. I'm not particularly a Yankee fan, but I appreciate good baseball when I see it, and I usually see it when the Yankees play.

Congrats to the Fish on a great post-season and a great Series.

9. Yankees Fans...
Are the most arrogant, least gracious, obnoxious fans in baseball.

I know, I'm from NYC.

They don't deserve respect.

But the team is one of the best in history. They might've lost this one, but they've won too many to make gloating really satisfying, either.

YaY! the Yankees lost... this year.

You gotta love this wildcard team though. Congrats Fish!

A bitter Met Fan

8. The evil empire has fallen!
I watched the whole game, something told me I would be seeing the end of one era, and the beginning of a new legend in Josh Beckett. Each and everytime he needed a popout, groundout, double play, and strike out, he just dominated the mighty Yankees. I know the Yankees fans are just hurting big time, they couldn't do anything tonight. And to the Marlins owner, please keep this team together, you have something real special going there...

24. You may not want to believe this
but Yankee fans take this kind of defeat in stride. You won't hear us crying about how "we was robbed," or how the gods were against us, or how some curse is the cause of all our woes. You won't hear us beating up on the team or blaming individual players for "blowing it." You won't hear us blaming Joe Torre either, he made the right calls, the team just didn't execute. And, we sure as hell are not going to blame some poor sap-of-a-diehard-fan for doing what any of us would have done in the same situation.

The Marlins bettered the Yankees and were the better team this series. The Yankee bats went cold at the wrong times and the Marlins' pitching had a lot to do with it. So, congrats to the Marlins! You win a lot, you lose some. The Marlins won fair and square. No recount necessary; no recall demanded.

Dynasty over? Statements like that belie a lack of knowledge and respect for baseball, its history and its traditions. I'd expect crap like that from Ann Coulter, not a DUer who happens to be a baseball fan.

Why do they hate us (us being Yankee fans)? It's because of the dynasty, it's because under Torre the Yanks are in almost every WS, and it's because deep in your heart, you know that the Yankees not only deserved to be there THIS year, but that they'll probably be back next year.

Again, congrats to the Marlins.

I don't even like baseball, but I still think the Yankees are the world's most successful sports franchise. They'll always be in contention for a title, just like the Braves. Lots of money pumped into those clubs, and they'll always be in contention.

The M's beat the Yankees in Yankees stadium,. bwaaaahhahahahhhahhah. It was beauuuutiful. Around the 6th inning when it looked like it would happen, my husband built a fire outside and we sat around under a perfect warm October night sky and drank some beer and listened to the yanks lose the world series. Did I mention they were playing at Yankee Stadium? The only thing better would be if the M stood for mariners, but maybe someday!

Yankees suck. They really really suck.

30. Keep telling yourself the dynasty is over
Let's see, how many times have the Diamondbacks, Angels and Marlins made it to the WS in the last three years? Once each. The Yanks? Twice. Who's got the best chance of being there again next year? Who else, The Dynasty. Will they win? They usually do, but they might not. That's baseball. End of story.

43. I dont' know about that - there are a lot of clouds out there
The team looked and played old - Clemmens is gone - Wells will be gone; Pettie will be gone - that leaves Mussina and bunch of guys - I dont' think there are 3 starters like that out there in the market -here is no bull pen - closer notwithstanding - Gamibi (sp?) broke down this year as did Jeter (twice). Stienbrenner has gutted the farm system (again) to trade for vets. So there is no joy there.

The offense (as the Marlins showed as did the Angels last year) remains spotty.

So they need three starters and at least another rbi man. And a bull pen. And start to think about life after williams and Jeter

That's the formula for a long long season next year - esp if George has the expected hissy fit and fires Torre and Cashman and decides to revamp the team his way.

Too bad the boohoo'ers from the whining division had to miss a great show. Turned it on in the ninth? You missed one of the most impressive pitching performances in World Series history. Why? Cuz you're a halfwit crybaby, and certainly no baseball fan.

Go Fish! Congrats to the Yanks for another AL Championship but the Marlins beat the best to be the best. I forgot who said after game five that the Yanks had the Fish right where they wanted. I have to chuckle thinking back on that. Torre is a class act, and so are most of the Yankees players and staff. Sorry I can't say that for Steinbrenner. I can understand expecting to win with all the money you are spending but it is not like you are paying the salaries from your own pocket, you have a 200+ million dollar media contract per year. He needs to give his team the respect they deserve. I can't blame Zimmer saying that he's leaving b/c the upstairs boss isn't treating him with respect. I wish the best for the Yanks but not for Steinbrenner, if that possible.

36. Yanks Lost The Series, But Won The Argument
Small market teams with low payrolls cannot compete against big-market teams with large payrolls. The last three WS teams, Diamondbacks, Angels, and Marlins. Three different teams. Two small market teams.

Let's bury the argument that money is all in baseball. Absolutely no true.

..but it's damn close. I also think you should go back and look at the Diamondback payroll the year they won the World Series. Money isn't a guarantee of a championship, but it's been demonstrated time and again that the more you spend, the more you win.

42. sorry - The Big Markets rule baseball
and will continue to do so - look at who was in the post season - Chicago, Boston, New York, Atlanta, San Francisco; Okaland; Minnesota; Florida; out of the 8: 5 had HUGE payrolls. Big markets will continue to dominate as long as the current structre remains. Yeah money doesn't buy championships but a ton of money makes your odds a heck of a lot better.

37. Freedom and democracy?
First off, the Yankees dynasty is far from over. When a team gets to the World Series, that's not exactly a sign that it's faltering. For every aging player on the Yankees, they've got someone like Alfonso Soriano, Nick Johnson or Jose Contreras. Expect the Yankees to be good for a long, long time.

Secondly, the idea that "freedom and democracy" have been restored is a little suspect. The bloated salaries and heightened ticket prices will continue. Owners will still extract extortion money to get new stadiums. The two darlings of the media this postseason, the Cubs and Red Sox, don't exactly pinch pennies. Bottom line: the more you spend, the more you tend to win.

I would also watch denigrating the Yankee's high payroll. Whether you like it or not, your favorite team would do the exact same thing the Yankees do if they could.

41. Yanks are Overrated
Boston would have given the Marlins a better series. Good-bye to Roger Clemens, the most overrated Yankee of all. One thing the Yankees don't need next year is a Hall of Famer who doesn't win clutch ballgames. Yankee hitting was nothing to brag about either - .156 with men in scoring position. What's up with Soriano? All he did was strike out.
