:grr:

The Red Sox beat the Marlins so badly in the regular season that we had to APOLOGIZE the next day for running up the score. I think it was 24-5.

What bullshit. Oh you Yankee motherfuckers, wait until next year.

No, I'm not sorry. American League allegiance can kiss my ass. You were out of your league in this series. You were out of your league in the ALCS. One manegerial decision and the Sox are celebrating a championship now while the Yankees are on their second week of tee times.

Yeah. I'm bitter.

It's hard for me to get over it,but I can't really blame the Yankees for the fact that Pedro Martinez was managing for the Red Sox in our last game.

Torre knows they escaped certain death thanks to Grady's blowing Game 7. Oh well. Good for the Marlins- they now are at 40% of the Sox' total WS wins!

I can't feel sorry for the Yankees. I felt for the Indians when we beat them back in 1997 bk they wanted it so bad and had never won before.

You Yankees fans. Weren't their 4 WS wins in the last 7 years good enough for you??

and didn't even give the Sox the right to say that they lost to the eventual champs really took the sting out of this loss for me. Yeah, we lost. That's awful. But we beat the Sox and we'll be playing for it again next year.

I HOPE you're kidding. The Florida Marlins stand for a small-market, underdog team that wins through hard work and effort and a payroll that is significantly lower than their opponents.

37. They started out playing ball in Melbourne, Fl.
just down the street from me...we would catch all the games and still do The Manatees' minor league, big disappointment when they went south, but they still are our only Florida's Baseball Team,
The Marlins!

Sarge is thrill they won...a true Florida Boy..who played on the Little League Team The Marlins and he was still rooting for them when I was rooting for Boston. We are happy they won...I would of been torn and had to cheer my Red Sox.

William. I read your post on Bill Buckner happily living in Idaho, good for him and forgeting his error...he sure did bring Sarge in this world two weeks earlier, he was supposed to be the second week in November but now that I think about it, I can't believe I watch the World Series in 1986 in my 9th month...but you know one Red Sox fan to another...we support and cheer on the home team!
If it wasn't for Boone's homerun...the Red Sox showed themselves as the better team this year, no guestion about it.

I like your spirits William...may be the Red Sox next year!

...a complete waste of a baseball season. Of course, Marlins/Yankees was the least interesting combination possible from the post-season field... Well, at least the playoffs were full of suspense...

Yeah, my avatar gives me away (but they weren't the only team I liked in postseason) -- I'll be retiring it tomorrow, I guess, and waiting for spring training!

32. I thought it was a wonderful WS...
Was it game 4 that they went 12 innings? Did you watch that? Yankees in the 11th inning with bases loaded and one out? That was freaking good baseball. And Beckett didn't impress me in the last game he had played, but tonite, he was so great. I feel good for the kid, got a 5 hit night and personally delivered the last out. It is probably the greatest day of that kids life.

16. I know the feelings: A's vs. Red Sox
Why did the Red Sox squander their victory over the A's? That did them no good at all. My pain over the A's losing that series would have been eased had the Red Sox beaten the Yankees, but as usual they blew it. Yes, I know the A's blew this, the A's blew that. I know and I don't care. The A's have three world championships (1972-74, and again in 1989) in a row and nobody can ever take that away from them. Never. In any event, while the Marlins won their championship fair and square, I think many baseball fans are getting fed up with Yankee domination in October.

Edited on Sat Oct-25-03 10:47 PM by bluestateguy
The most obnoxious, unsportsmanlike people I have ever met. Sore winners and sore losers. When 12 year old Jeffrey Maier helped the Yankees CHEAT in the 1996 playoffs this kid was hailed by Yankee fans, and their eastern media lapdogs, as a hero. I have no beef with Torre, who I think is basically a good person, though let's just wait and see how "The Boss" treats his manager now that his team has not won the World Series in GASP! THREE YEARS!

27. I'm a Detroit Tiger fan, loyal unto death
So I can afford to say "Congratulations, Marlins...fine season, Yankees (okay, that second one was tough), and great playoff season all the way around." Unless I'm mistaken, both the Yankees and the Marlins won more games in the playoffs than the Tigs did all year.
Being a Tig fan is like being the parent of ugly, untalented kids...you still gotta love 'em anyhow. There's always next season -- maybe we'll only lose 118 games.

I just mind that they've been a losing team for eleven consecutive seasons.
Plus, my high school football team sucks (1-7), my college football team sucks (1-6), my local hockey team sucks (3-8-1-1) and the Lions suck (1-5). But, yeah, I suspect you're right about the Yankees. With their success, they probably aren't paying you no nevermind.
John
Remember, we Tiger fans are HARD-WIRED to hate the Yankees. It's in our DNA. Still, it was a great post-season all the way around.

Chip-POOOO-Wah!!
Lately, it's been more of a basketball school. The number six pick in last year's NBA draft, Chris Kaman, is from there, as were NBA all-stars Dan Roundfield and Dan Majerle. Our most famous football player was probably Gary Hogeboom (late of the Dallas Cowboys).

But, as long as we can beat Western Michigan, the season won't be a total loss.

34. I became "luke-warm" to sports years ago ...
... before teams were named after fish. Marlins? What the--

For the first time in years I watched the playoffs because the Cubs looked like they might have a chance. It was exciting, but ultimately it was a downer as they lost in extra innings. That was when I quit watching, and had no interest in the World Series afterward.

I could have watched the Red Sox, but Yankees and Marlins?

What started off as good entertainment just fizzled for me when that fan robbed the Cubs of a win.

So the Marlins won it all? Still I ask, what the hell is a Marlin? I guess I've been away from sports for too many years

35. Congrats Marlins
The Sox or the Yanks don't suck but they did perform less than the Marlin champs.

Too much, too soon, too far to go, too late to play
The game is over

So here I am once more
In the playground of the broken hearts
I’m losing on the swings
I’m losing on the roundabouts
The game is over

Yet another emotional suicide
Overdosed on sentiment and pride
The game is over

Too late to say I love you
Too late to restage the play
The game is over

I act the role in classic style
Of a martyr carved with twisted smile
To bleed the lyric for this song
To write the rites to right my wrongs
An epitaph to a broken dream
To exercise this silent scream
A scream that’s born from sorrow

I never did write that lovesong
The words just never seemed to flow
Now sad in reflection did I gaze through perfection
And examine the shadows on the other side of morning
Promised wedding now a wake, awake

The fool escaped from paradise
Will look over his shoulder and cry
Sit and chew on daffodils and struggle to answer "why? "
As you grow up and leave the playground
Where you kissed your prince and found your frog
Remember the jester that showed you tears, the script for tears

So I’ll hold our peace forever when you wear your bridal gown
In the silence of my shame the mute that sang the sirens’ song
has gone solo in the game, but the game is over

Can you still say you love me
The jester’s tear
Do you love me?

and their fans. The Marlins' win isn't a fluke. Since May, they've had the best record in the Majors I believe.

Honestly, I lost interest after the ALCS. I'm a Sox fan and I didn't even root against the Yankees - I simply didn't care. Just too damn depressed I guess: another spectacular, train-wreck-in-slow-motion loss, to those damn Yankees no less. It left me drained.

That being said, I'm satisfied that the Yanks lost. Then again the Marlins have won two more WS Championships than the Red Sox since '97 (I think) and even longer than that (since '18).

What's the over-under on the number of firings that'll go down in NY?

40. The Marlins were clearly the best team in the post-season
And that includes the Red Sox, no matter how badly the Red Sox may have beaten them several months ago.

The Marlins beat 2 100-win teams soundly, and the Cubs when down 3-1 to win this thing.

They were the best team and they deserve this championship.

off our set-up guy Timlin in the whole series. Had Pedro left the game, I think it was the Sox to win.

There's always next year. I'm sure ole Steinbrenner will clean house and spend big bucks on some young talent that no other team can afford to replace his aging roster.

The Marlins had the best record in baseball since early May. They beat everyone that came their way fair and square. Good for them. They are better than the Yankees at this moment in time. They are the best team in baseball at this moment in time. And that's all that matters.

Congratulations to the Marlins!
