Ok...I'm now on DAY THREE
Anyone knows about addictions knows about day 3. It's a big day in being able to change your addictions.

Now understand this: I'm on day 3 of not smoking while dealing with a flu and having had a tooth pulled.

I guess this is a whiney, sympathy thread

I know where there's a ciggie, but it will be gone soon. I just have to wait out the garbage man.

BTW, did I say I HATE living in Indiana during Daylight time change?

20. Every time you want that ciggie, SAY It out LOUD, and wait five more
minutes.

Acknowledge the craving, and then, how you have the power over the craving. Acknowledge how you have the power to overcome a physical addiction, then think of something else.

BTW, the patch is not a bad idea. I found it VERY helpful, but I didn't wear it at night. I used it like I smoked... Made a huge difference. Worth every penny.

3. I've been waiting for a good time
and believe me, being sick from the flu and having a tooth pulled, well, you don't really feel like reaching for a ciggie.

18. I heard the nicotene gets in your bones
and takes about a year to deplete. I had cravings for about a year after I quit my 10 year habit.

The best way to quit? Decide never to smoke another cig again. Then, hold to that no matter what.

Good luck!

5. wow, freaky
First time I managed to quit I had the flu, that lasted about 6 months. Second, and hopefully final time, was right after I got my wisdom teeth pulled.

Hang in there khep, remember, giving up now means you just went 3 days without a smoke for nothing.

6. you can do it Kef
the craving only lasts about 30 seconds. Ride the wave...and don't give in. Drink lots of water - it'll help flush the nicotine out faster.

I used to smoke 3 packs a day. I have been tobacco free for about 13 years. If I can, anyone can.

You can do it!! Whine all you want - just don't smoke!

10. Well, I hate to be the ciggy butt in the ashtray
half soaked with coffee, which will start really looking good to you if you dwell on it. Just remember from an ex-smoker, you can never, ever again have a drag, or just one more, and kick the habit.

11. Day three is the turning point
That's the day that you either pass of fail. I know from dieting and it's the hardest day of them all.

Good Luck khephra.

13. Do you have any gum in the house?
Also read a book and one more thing that use to work for me when I started my diets in the past and I'm sure it's about the same as smoking.

Go to sleep and sleep off your cravings even if you have to take a shot of Nyquil to put you to sleep.

15. Durn, Kheph....
You're a better man than I am and I go through two to three cartons a week.

I tried to quit once, but wound up tearing the nicest guy I've ever met in my life a new a**hole.

He didn't deserve it and I apologized five minuets after I went out and bought another pack.

If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know. I'm on your side and I'll probably need help when I decide to quit.

16. There's such an enormous, wonderful
feeling becoming a non smoker. If there are any cigarettes available, put them under water and scrunch them up and throw them away.

21. congrats!
I got involved with PSI seminars a couple of years ago, and during their Basic seminar I had to set a 90 day goal for myself. I learned that a "result" is made up of intention and mechanism. You cannot succeed without 100% intention. Relying purely on mechanism will get you NOWHERE. Once you have 100% intention, the mechanism will appear. I smoked for 29 years......the day after the last day of the seminar I filled up my half empty pack of smokes with water, threw them in the garbage and haven't looked back.

The urge to quit has to be stronger than the desire to continue smoking. If you are committed to quiting you will quit. If you are committed to quiting, and are still smoking you are committed to smoking.

22. Congrats on three days
tomorrow will be 4, etc. Someday you will stop counting in dyas - it'll be weeks, then months, then years. Been there, its tough, but it is so worth it. Today I took a walk in the early morning air and I thought about how 3 years ago I couldn't climb the steep, quarter-mile climb to my drive without whizzy and getting dizzy. Now, I can enjoy the burn in my legs and butt as try to take it faster than before. I no longer worry about my lungs, just my girth. Hang in there, Keph - we're all pulling for you. And good luck with that flu and tooth.
