I need some pregnancy commiseration.
I'm 4 1/2 months pregnant. WILL THE VOMITING EVER END?? I'm probably still going to be hurling my guts out when this kid is in elementary school.

Also, I'm stupid now. I don't like it.

I'm pretty crabby today. So the first person who tells me "it will all be WOOOOOOOORTH it!!". . .well, I would suggest that you just don't. :)

1. Miz t. and our daughter say
ginger ale and saltines kept by your bed. Take as soon as you feel nauseous. Also candied ginger seemed to help.
Hang in there. It's definitely worth it.
I know, that's easy for ME to say.

2. it'll all be worth it!
the first time your friends get pregnant, and you can smile knowingly and say "don't worry, it's only nine months, and it'll all be worth it."

This is especially true if it's a daughter, and you can tell her the same thing.

The vomiting will end. Please hang in there. We care about you. You are a good person and we are thinking about you. I have read your posts and I support you. Hope the ickiness ends soon. 4 1/2 months is too long. I think it will be better soon. Hoping for you.

5. Maybe, maybe not.
Sorry to say. I only had a few months of respite in my first pregnancy, but the second was much better.

So sorry you are feeling so poorly, especially at 4.5 months. You usually get a few months off from months four or five months on. Usually at the end, it is possible that you feel "full" all the time for the last month.

I wish you lots of luck. Keep the saltines and a favorite drink handy.

BTW, I just caught the flu from my kids who brought it home from school. Enjoy those first few years of limited public exposure.

7. I remember laying on the bed crying I was so tired of being sick.
Now when I get a 24 hour bug I think - I did this for 3-1/2 months (three times). I lost ten pounds in the first trimester. One thing I will say is the only time I was not sick was when I miscarried so you probably have a sticker! There was Bendectine around for my first two and it helped. It would keep me from actually throwing up. I have heard it had some kind of B vitamin (B6?) and that the lack of it causes a lot of the nausea. One other thing I did when it was really bad was forego the vitamins and iron for a little bit. That seemed to help. One tidbit that helped me was somebody told me to only eat foods that were already mostly digested when you ate them - like mashed potatoes. Avoid things that require a lot of digestion work, like raw salads. That did help. I wish there was a magic answer. Yours does seem to be hanging on quite awhile. I wish you luck.

8. Thanks everybody.
I should have also mentioned that saltines do not do jack for me. I'm way beyond garden-variety morning sickness. I probably have hyperemsis. I don't want to believe that I do, because then it really might not end.

The only thing that works is anti-nausea medication, but I have been instructed to use it only when absolutely necessary because if I take it all the time it will quit working, and then I will be seriously up a creek. The problem is that it takes about an hour to kick in, and the vomiting comes on so fast that I don't have time to take the drugs first.

My mother was never sick with me or my sister. I am very bitter about that. WHY ME?? WHYYYYYYYYY???

22. Ask your Dr. about Unisom (over-the-counter sleep aid)
as an alternative to your regualar anti-nausea meds. My wife's
Dr. recommended it & it helped her (half a pill). Perhaps using this will still leave your regular anti-nausea effective when you need it.

Supposedly, Unisom was approved as an anti-nausea drug for pregnant women. They got sued over something that wasn't related to the drug, but they decided to stop promoting it as an anti-nausea anyway.

9. Nope, it won't
I'll probably be the only honest one to answer you! I'm also 4 and 1/2 months pregnant and still sick too. I'm thinking the only way it ends is with birth!

It's the most awful experience I've ever been through (just being honest here people). I also get tired of hearing that "it'll be worth it" or "it'll end soon." I know people are only trying to be nice and helpful, but if I had the energy, I think I'd throw something at them!

Good luck Nicole! I hope it all works out great for you. And it'll all be worth it. ;)

Although not so nice for you. :)

I spent a day in the hospital a while ago (a month? six weeks? I told you guys, I'm stupid now) because I couldn't even keep water down. The nurses were really nice, but they kept saying "it will all be worth it" or "it will be over before you know it." A word to non-pregnant people everywhere who say that: YOU'RE NOT HELPING.

19. I don't think we're that unusual
A friend of mine was sick for 7 months! Everyone will tell you it ends around 3 months or so, but they're lying!

Oh, and a note to women who don't have pregnancy sickness- DON'T TELL ANYONE WHO IS SUFFERING THROUGH IT. I don't know how many women have had the temerity to tell me how glorious their pregnancy was. While I stand there, green faced, exhausted, and searching for the closest ladies' room. Ugh!

And my friends and I have a term for the memory loss- you're suffering from Pregnant Brain Syndrome! Apparently that's another oh so lovely side effect.

And no, the saltines, ginger snaps, ginger ale, Sprite/7 Up, etc. haven't worked for me either. I actually lost weight my first 3 months, and I've only gained one pound back so far.

I hope it gets better for you soon. :-)

21. You too.
I lost about 15 pounds at the beginnning. I've gained somewhere between five and ten back. That is solely due to the drugs. I don't know how people did this before anti-nausea medication.

I, too, do not want to hear any more about how fabulous other people felt while they were pregnant, or how this should be a "happy time" for me. Those people can pretty much bite me right now. ;)

29. Just curious...
How much meat/milk/eggs do you eat?

One theory about morning sickness is that it is a response to foods with a high probibility of parasites.

30. I was eating almost none
for quite a while. I only ate things that were easy to throw up--ice cream, mashed potatoes, Malt-O-Meal. Then this weekend I ate some meat and cheese and I wasn't sick. So then I ate more meat and cheese and I still wasn't sick. I thought increasing my protein intake was going to solve the problem. But that didn't work either. Meat and cheese before bed last night, cottage cheese for breakfast, major vomiting shortly thereafter.

32. Oh my...
You poor thing.

//I only ate things that were easy to throw up--ice cream, mashed potatoes, Malt-O-Meal.//
What a way to plan your meals.

//Meat and cheese before bed last night, cottage cheese for breakfast, major vomiting shortly thereafter.//
Too much lactose after cheese and cottage cheese?

Wow... hmmm... I'm assuming you didn't have any allergies/intolerances prior to this, right?

What if you ate just meat... say chicken breast or a mild fish for a day?
Do you feel like that might work?

Can you eat raw veggies?
I'm thinking minimally processed/cooked.
Do spices seem to have any effect?

I'm wondering too if it isn't a pH thing in your stomach, maybe causing your nausea.

I'm suspecting this may be a cluster of issues and not just one single problem.
And that sucks.

Well if nothing else you can use this as a guilt thing on the kid when he/she is being a pain in the ass.
:D

35. I've never had a problem with cheese before.
It was weird because I was nauseous almost all the time, and then as soon as I upped the protein I wasn't sick anymore. Until today.

I don't think I can do just meat all day. I used to be a vegetarian, so I'm not a big fan of the meat to start with. That's part of the reason why I didn't eat much until this weekend--it just grossed me out.

As for the raw veggies, I'm not going to go near them. I ate some corn once and it was a PITA to throw up because it doesn't really dissolve in your stomach. So ever since then I only eat well-cooked broccoli, cauliflower, or carrots. No raw veggies for me for now.

it would get better after 8 weeks. It got worse. They told me it should be over by 13 weeks. I'm at week 18 now. It has slowed down, but it just won't end.

Carbonated things make me throw up. Anything that makes me burp has the potential to make me throw up.

One of my friends took some kind of herbal ginger that was OK during pregnancy. She said it helped a lot. She too had debilitating morning sickness (well, all-day sickness like you).

26. Pregnancy SUCKS. I didn't FEEL PRETTY, I couldn't eat ANYTHING.
The thought of chicken made me vomit. Clothes? I looked like a WHALE in my last month, even though I only gained 20 lbs... A dear, kind friend saw me waddling around in the only shirt that would fit (grey) and said he wanted to throw water on me, looking like a beached whale!

Pants? I bought ONE pair of those evil maternity pants. I burned them ceremoniously when I got home from the hospital. Nursing bras? I don't THINK so.

Thank GOODNESS for the drug induced haze of childbirth (loved the morphine drip for the c-section!) C-section is the ONLY way to go, so as not to get your hoo hah all stretched out. Natural childbirth? WHAT THE FUKC FOR? If some gods had intended for childbirth to be 'natural' they wouldn't have invented DRUGS. GET THE EPIDURAL EARLY.

Worth it my ass. At $14,000 per year for grade school, I got your "worth it" right here.

Oh, oh and let's talk about that GUT that never goes away, EVER? EVER. You can do 10 MILLION sit ups, that lil pouch ain't going ANYWHERE.

The FUNNIEST part is the GUYS who think the baby is there to entertain THEM for it's first two years. They want to PLAY with the baby, when in fact it's nothing more than a drooling, eating, poop factory. (BTW, LUVS are the best diapers. Toys R Us has the best specials and sales on them. Cloth diapers SUCK, don't waste your time.)

OH and your husband will be pissed that he is no longer the baby of the family. He will revert to being a little boy in a big package, and somehow it will all be all your fault.

Yeah, reproduction. Whooooo HOOOOOOOO!

(All tongue in cheek!!!)

27. I remember those days
and all my sympathy and lots of  My close friend was pregnant at the same time. All she kept saying was that she never felt better, never more sexual, newer more productive. :eyes: I was sick and could barely go 4 to 5 hours without taking a nap. I would lay down and sleep during my break. My brain was mush. The brain part continues during the sleep deprived early months of parenthood.

My eldest sister kept telling me that this will make me humble and more empathetic of others. That is the only good thing to say about the misery. I actually am a kinder, gentler person and I understand how some things you just can't control or change.

And I can't resist: It's all worth it. ;-) LOL

I was so tired for the first three months that I would almost pass out. I had to quit my job after I almost passed out behind the wheel on the way home one day. After I had been at work for all of one hour.

I developed a new empathy for people with chronic fatigue syndrome.

40. I quit eating the popsicles
several weeks ago. Maybe a couple of months ago, my brain doesn't work so good. I lived on them for a while, and then one day every time I ate a popsicle I would throw it up before I could even get to the bathroom.

Until last week, my DH had never been around during one of the times when I threw up all over the floor. That time it was Rice Chex. It looked a lot like baby vomit. I told him to get used to seeing that. :)

I hear you loud and clear. I thought my first pregnancy was bad when I threw up for 7 months.....four years later with #2, I started throwing up when only a few weeks along and threw up the whole time AND lost 20 pounds whilst pregnant.

The first thing I said to my OB-GYN when I saw him with #2 was, "Will you tie my tubes right after I have this baby?" Which he did.

When, Oh Lord, will some wonderful scientist come up with a cure for morning sickness!?!

39. I was sick as a dog with my oldest; and fine with my youngest...
The first time around, it was December...peak gig season...and I drove from gig to gig with a coffee can in the car. The worst thing was, I'd have to pull off the road to use it, and keep on going to the gig!

Timmy was a breeze...I got sick twice. Both times were after stupidly consuming Popeyes spicy chicken. (I hope that doesn't make you puke just to think of it!)

What worked for me was sticking to a relatively bland diet and making sure my stomach was never empty. Since I had to get up in the middle of the night to pee anyway, I'd munch a couple of crackers and have a glass of ginger ale.

Feel better soon!

I cannot imagine thirty times in a day.
