Fox suing Fox???
Fox News Threatened to Sue The Simpsons
Over a Parody Segment

October 24, 2003

During an interview broadcast today on NPR's Fresh Air, Simpsons creator Matt Groening revealed that the Fox News Network had threatened to sue The Simpsons over a parody of the right-leaning news channel. The highly sensitive news organization, which is headed by Roger Ailes, made headlines this summer with an ill-starred lawsuit against humorist Al Franken's book, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them. The Fox suit was thrown out in court and only succeeded in making Franken's book a bestseller. According to Groening, the Simpsons team refused to cut out the segment, which Groening told Fresh Air he "really liked," figuring that Rupert Murdoch wouldn't allow the Fox News cable network to sue the Fox Broadcast Network, which carries The Simpsons. The Fox News Network did back down on its threat, although it has told The Simpsons creators that in the future, cartoon series will not be allowed to include a "news crawl" along the bottom of the screen, which might "confuse the viewers."

1. Well, it might confuse FOX's viewers
but I know a cartoon when I see one.

3. That's the thing: Fox viewers DON'T recognize a cartoon when they
see one. Why do you think they're so in love with Turd Blossom?

2. That episode was hilarious
It's the one where Krusty is running for Congress. Brilliant parody.

Fox News is far too sensitive. ABC, CNN, CBS and NBC have been teased mercilessly on Saturday Night Live over the years, and none of them have felt the need to sue SNL. And do they really think that Murdoch will allow his cash cow to be dragged into court? Hell no. He may be a right-wing lunatic, but he's also very, very greedy.

Hell, I can even remember an episode where Murdoch made a guest appearance to MAKE FUN OF HIMSELF.

4. They know they're a joke-
that's why they're so defensive. It's some kind of Napoleon complex.

6. There used to be a saying....
Parody is the highest form of flattery...or was it imitation? Anyway...those idiots need to lighten up. If you're so sue happy because someone makes fun of you, you recognize something in it as truth, or you wouldn't be so offended.

7. All of these right wing lunatics are all starting to show themselves
for the fools they really are! Pigboy, O'Leilly, Faux News. It is really quite funny. Hopefully this trend will continue! Or maybe I should say, hopefully the sheeple will catch on.

9. Wait, according to the Righties, we're the ones claiming that
we believe our followers are too dumb to know how to vote!

This should be plastered all over the place

Fox suing Fox, says their viewers can't distinguish reality from a cartoon!

(Better get that Dilbert segment off the news channel!)

10. Sorry, but thought of this afterward: Don't forget that Fox won a
lawsuit over the right to lie!!

Maybe we could encourage them to go for that defence against themselves! They're lying, and they don't want their audience to be lied to!
