3. Thanks, Limewire and Kaza-lite - which has the least intrusive adware?
which interferes the most to splash ads on your machine?

5. Kazaa Lite has no adware.
It's Kazaa with all the adware and spyware stripped out.

Also, there's eMule and Shareaza.

4. WinMX.
WinMX. It's about the only one I've used and there are absolutely no ads. The interface is very DOS-like in appearance and it may not be the prettiest thing in the world to look at, but the program size is small, no ads and I've found just about everthing I've looked for to date.

I'm sure there's better ones out there, but WinMX has satisfied all my file sharing needs so I haven't really looked for the "better" ones.

Welcome to the world of broadband. I've been using it for a year now. It will change the way you surf :)

6. I'm using Kazaa Lite, but my college ISP is giving me some crap...
...they're putting up warnings up on the screen that I did an illegal thing, or some crap. It's like the time I thought I was getting busted for porn on my computer. It's my personal computer, anyway. I'm not using a lab computer to download songs. What's it to those jerks if I download a few songs???

8. Same Problem
I Use Kazaa Lite As Well And Have Had My ISP Threaten To Shut My Connection Off - I Have NO Idea What I Have Done - They Go On To Say I Was Sharing Illegal Files Through Kazaa Lite - Anyone Know Of A Way To Encrypt Your Shared Folder Or Block The ISP From Gathering Information?

10. bah!! amatuers!!
check out direct connect, and bittorrent..

for the really juicy stuff you have to go to newsgroups.

bear in mind these methods are much less intuitive and require a bit of work to get working and reap the rewards.

direct connect- www.neo-modus.com

bittorrrent- http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/

i'm not sure if it's appropriate to post links to actual torrent link sites so you'll have to pm me i guess..

newsgroups are tricky, you'll need a good client like http://www.forteinc.com/main/homepage.php

newsgroups are the world's message board there are thousands of groups with millions of posts everyday. the "binary" groups have found a way of encoding a binary file into a text format to be decoded by a newsreading program. you can get pretty much ANYTHING from them, but service varies widely according to what isp you use and the retention (how long posts stay on the server) they have.

12. Limewire
There are to many jerks on kazza that rename files, about 20% of the stuff that I download are NOT what they should be. Limewire does not have as many users as kazaa, so may not find what you are looking for. But you will probably get the right file 99% of the time. If you want to try Limewire, PM me and I will send you a link to download LimeWire Pro 3.6.8 .

I don't like newsgroups, too many spammers on there.
I never find what I'm looking for.

13. Suprnova!!!
Spyware-free, uses bit torrent system for all downloads.

Uploads are FAST (copies of The Daily Show are always up the next morning, for example). I just got a copy of Scary Movie 3.

The system involves a sharing device, but it's easy once you get started.

Go to www.bitconjurer.org and download Bit Torrent
Then go to www.suprnova.org and right-click on a movie or show or music file. Save the music file, the open it...you download bits of the show from many other people and it completes itself.

Go to www.suprnova.org first to see the selection. Quite amazing.

14. Kazaa K++
Very good neutered version of Kazaa. No spyware, and more bells and whistles.

The host web site changes quite often, but you can Google it:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=kazaakpp240en.exe&btnG=Google+Search

Be sure to get Peer Guardian to block bad IP addresses, Double Click, some virus servers and fake files.

15. newsgroups are still hit and miss..
but if you use a good newsreader you can sort by title and all the spam lines up at the bottom..

don't forget with bittorrent to leave your window open to help share everything!

16. I uninstalled Kazaa last night:
And removed all "questionable" mp3s.

<soapbox>
After last night, I came to a realization of how serious RIAA is about this situation. Apparently the RIAA or some record companies have set up 'spoof' servers to distribute corrupt files. As you know, you download files on Kazaa from several different sources, so when I downloaded some music last night, it would have sections that were corrupt and make a horrible noise in my mp3 player.

Most of the corrupted music affected by this is new music (last 2 years or so) and is pretty much limited to hiphop or rap.

After some research, I found that I am not hallucinating, and other people are having this problem.

http://www.srtforums.com/forums/showthread/t-15364.html

Also on this page:

http://www.petitiononline.com/riaawar/petition.html

about 2/3 of the way down on the page, I found this little tidbit that kinda put it into perspective.

"This bill would also give them the right to sabotage the file sharing services themselves so that we download corrupt files. This would allow them to commit legal cyber security crimes.

Imagine this: Your about to go on a trip and you want to take some of your favorite music along with you on a mixed cd, you logon to your favorite file sharing program and download that one song you can’t get out of your head. You go to play it only to find out that it doesn’t work!! You try to download it again and again, only to get the same results. Then you realize why it doesn’t work, it along with countless other files have been purposely corrupted by the RIAA and the record companies. Maybe you’ll have a worst experience than this. Maybe you try to play this file, only to find out that it released a virus into your pc that not only deletes your mp3’s but also although mistakenly, deletes your other personal files or disables your ISP that you paid for!!!"

So in a word, be CAREFUL. They're filing more lawsuits every day. So I decided to get out before they filed one against me. I don't need a 'copyright infringement' conviction keeping me from getting my teaching license.

RIAA's Hit List:
http://www.techtv.com/news/culture/story/0,24195,3484600,00.html

Understand that I am not just a paraniod freak that is clueless about computers and networks. I have a network engineering degree, and I understand what the RIAA could be capable of, given free reign to stop file sharing in any way possible.
</soapbox>

17. Google 'Peer Guardian'
Simple little program that blocks IPs from the RIAA, MPAA, anti-crime organizations, Double Click, fakes servers and many others. YOu don't connect to them, they don't connect to you.

This cuts down on most issues. Not all, but most.

Also, refer to my earlier post about Kazaa K++. It's Kazaa withough all the spyware crap.
