Last ditch strategies
Edited on Mon Oct-27-03 10:47 PM by jiacinto
Need some ideas and fast. I've signed up with three temp agencies--no luck yet. I've used Monster and the other search engines--no luck yet. I'm about to start emailing alumni of my college and grad school. Then what?

I am about to start calling hotels if they need people to work at the front desk.

What else can I do to find work now?

What I forgot to add: I do have a part time job at night and on the weekends at an upscale dept store.

4. How lucrative?
Facts and figures, man, facts and figures! :-)

I'm also deep in the hole and need some "cee-gar money" (actually, "dock-tor" money) in the damn near future.

I looked into the "mystery shopping" thing that a Bay Area DUer suggested, but I've only been offered five mystery shops in as many weeks, and all were women-only. And this was out of 18 applications.

Input is appreciated ... lusted after ... vital to America's interests!

6. ok, heres the skinney
delivering for Pizza Hut got me thru tech school twice. most of the locations are always looking for drivers, the locations i worked at always gave me the schedule i requested (i was a good employee).

it is min. wage plus tips. you could expect average about 5 bucks an hours in tip when it is busy. plus a per-trip allowance, it was .50 last time i worked. so it can get you about 10 bucks an hour. duties would also include washing dishes and other resturant type stuff while waiting in between deliveries when it's slow. very easy money.

you do have to use your own car, and the miles add up.

5. Lots of things,
Get a paper route,
Flip burgers or make lattes for a few shifts,
Take a waitstaff or bartending position,
Call your temp agencies 3 or 4 time a day. They'll find you a position just to get your off their backs.

7. I second the suggestion about pestering the temp agencies
I called all of them at 7:00 each morning, and I am NOT a morning person. It reminded them that I was still available and kept my name in their minds.

8. Show up and start working
Actually, that might get you halled away by the police, but I've always wondered if someone didn't try that.
Does Florida have a job service? Such services used to actually find a job, but most do not but they might have job listings. Of course, read the employment section in the paper. Then there's showing up in person and asking about employment for any compnay that you'd be willing to work for. Of course, many hire through temp services but they will usually tell you that. Email your professors too if you had any kind of relationship with them.

9. You could run errands for the elderly.
Sorta like Driving Miss Daisy.

Put an add in the paper. The elderly are always needing errands run. The y pay well and like to have a visitor as well. You'll get paid and make someone's day a bit brighter.
