Do you loose your student loans when you fail at College

I am horrified and I don't know what to do.

I have never failed a class in my life. I didn't get my homework in on time last Friday and I got an F in my English Class.
I went to hand it in today and my teacher told me that she had to fail me because I didn't show up for two classes in that past two weeks and I didn't hand my paper in on time.

I left her messages on her answering machine telling her that I needed an extension until Monday to hand my term paper in and she didn't get the message.

She thought that I had blown her class off and she said that the School had a new policy that all instructors had to turn their grades on the last day of the semester.

Oh Shit I have lost my Scholarship that pays for my books, bus pass, supplies and the portion of my tuition that my loans don't pick up.

I had a 4.0 average until Friday and now I am messed up big time.

I feel like crawling into a hole and dying right now. I am so depressed!

at my college, they will just give you a warning. Do you have incompletes at your college?

I have two incompletes because I was sick back in August and they warned me today that I was going to lose my loans and scholarships.

I am so scared about this situation.

If its a loan from the educational institution it depends on their rules. Otherwise, as long as you finish out the semester with an appropriate course load your loans will remain in effect.

4. Talk to the Dean if the instructor won't help you.

This sounds suspicious to me. Explain the absences and the messages to the Dean, and point out your high GPA and level of responsibility in dealing with things. The application of these policies in these circumstances is adverse, harsh and unjust. These kinds of results were not intended by the policy.

you had those 3 research projects all due and were in a pinch.

You won't lose your loans...but you should figure out how much that english class will cost you in loans/interest since you have to retake the class.

But I bet you lose your scholarship, as you say, and it sounded like a pretty choice scholarship to have. I only had one that paid tuition, period - certainly not expenses and the such.

And here I am going to use a little tough love. Stop giving yourself so much credit for that 4.0 you had, because that's gone - forever. That 4.0 that you had had only conditional value, and that was if you could keep it up there throughout the entirety of your college career.

I think you need to do some soulsearching about what the heck you are even doing in school. All the other students get their stuff in -- so it isn't work load that's killing you. You have to identify what it is that allows you to just not do the work (in the same fashion as all the others).

Family issues?
Health issues?
Following the wrong dream?

Because your predicament has nothing to do with the clock that you can't beat.

It's like.....the problem isn't that the teacher didn't get the message from you; the problem is that you didn't get the paper done on Friday. Why is that?

Sorry to be so tough, but after that terrible time crunch you had a couple of weeks ago, it seems like this is a chronic problem.

Yeah, I know......the last thing you need is a critical parent telling you that you failed. That's not what I am saying; I am saying: look closely at what you are doing.

7. Sorry to hear of all the continuing crap happening to you -

I shoudl think this is something to go to dean about. If I were the dean, given your circumstances, I'd be more than willing to grant you amnesty in this one - you only missed it by a day, and after all that you missed and went through, the fact that you got it done - and the fact of your previous superior performance - should count for something, IMO.

Best wishes! I'm rooting for you, as I have long thought that I'd love to go to cooking school, so I'm living vicariously through you, and want you to succeed! (I don't do cooking school becuase I have no interest in being a chef, I'd just like to learn how to cook like a pro, and I can't justify the time and expense of four years of school just to learn to make terrines and better omelettes for the fmaily! Maybe when I retire, I'll do it).

8. If it brings you below a 2.0

I think that makes you ineligible for federal financial aid (so says my brother, who has made a career out of failing).

Incompletes are a different matter, because they won't calculate your GPA with an incomplete.

10. I just got a call from my College

Damn I don't want to talk to them but I have a class at 6:30 AM in the morning and they will pull me out of class if i don't answer the phone.

9. Private bank loans...

I have private bank loans through citibank and bankone, all they care about is proof of enrollment and a cosigner(thanks, pops!). I know, I had a nervous breakdown and pulled a 1.5 GPA and got 6 credits last fall.

11. I am so sorry

I know the feeling.

What I suggest is that you again appraoch your professor and explain your situation to her.

I don't know what happened (or if you have a legitimat excuse or not--I assume that you do), but if you are honest and straight-forward with her I am sure that she would be willing to work something out.

If not I would go to the chair of the department and explain your situation. If it's something serious--like a family emergency, death, ilness, or some other situation--they should be more than willing to work something out.

This sounds horrible and I hope that it works out.

12. I am so afraid

I had high hopes and I might not be able to continue if they cut my loans out.
I am on disability and the Dept. Of Rehab will cut out the portion that they pay immediately. I have to show them my grades every semester and I have to sign a paper stating that I will lose my loan if I fall under a certain GPA.

I am going to Church later and begging God to please help me get through all of this.

Why is it when you take one step up something brings you back down two steps.

What's funny is I was asked to be a Teachers Aid again this semester and I am going to do it. I love to bake and my Chef asked me to be her assistant.

Worst case scenario: you have to take out all loans for the semester that comes up.

They have scholarships that you can apply for. Literally there's thousands for all types of people, although they are hard to apply to and they aren't a "one size fits all solution".

Try to talk to your professor and ask for help. If there truly is a mitigating circumstance I am sure that they will be willing to work with you.

It was a wake up call and I needed it because it has scared the hell out of me.

Everything was going good at College until August when I lost all of my teeth.

I went down two stairs in life and now I have to go back up them.
