Actress Halle Berry is fuming after movie bosses axed her plans to make a film based on the character she played in James Bond movie Die Another Day. The Oscar-winning screen star played sexy CIA agent Jinx in the movie alongside 007 Pierce Brosnan, and was desperate to portray the character again in a franchise of spin-off action films. But now the project has been spectacularly canceled by studio chiefs, much to the disgust of the 37-year-old actress.
http://www.imdb.com/PeopleNews/#1My theory? 1) Because the Tombraider sequel tanked, why did it tank, because the story wasn't there. But this gives studio heads the license to say female action movies dont do box office. Problem is so few are made, look at percentage of male action flicks that tank compared to the number that are made. If one female action flick tanks, it's like 1 out of 2.
2) The gropinator's ascent to gov. shows that country is still in this Peggy Noonan we want our action with testosterone please mode. Female action hero cuts in on their action.
I take this very personally because like Eddie Izzard, I think running, jumping climbing trees should be an equal opportunity activity. Ellen Ripley was the first truly heroic female character I ever saw and I hear they're re-releasing a director's cut of Alien next week. Sad I have to a 24 year old movie if I want to see female hero on the big screen.
